What have learned
Art! I need to illustrate my writing. Almost every article I read had some illustration; in many cases, the art was integral to understanding the writing.
Similarly, most articles used links and some used variables. While I rarely read linked articles, the links allowed me to learn about unfamiliar places and things when I chose to.
Less may be more. Details like gravity, tilt axis, and atmospheric composition made the Tellus Ring believable. Many more details could have been added, but they would have overwhelmed or bored the audience. It's a matter of balance.
Also, some of the articles gave me new thoughts. The author of Aiterean points out that if a newly adopted language doesn't have a needed word people will borrow from their old language. This means that a common tongue may have a great deal of variation depending on where it is spoken.
My Resolution
During 2025 .....
In the realm of art, I am going to illustrate my articles, especially the species ones. Words are great but pictures will help the reader see my sky whales or a Naga's hood. Similarly, the header I am currently using was supposed to be temporary for summer camp, and it doesn't feel right for Naiyam. So I will make the one I had planned to do after summer camp.
I will add links and variables to all my published articles. In my mad dash to do Christmas and write 10,000 words, I didn't do any of that. I'm still not comfortable with the systems, so adding them to older articles will make it easier to include as I am working on new material.
Seeing all the work Dhelian has done on Aiterean inspires me to work on the languages I have started especially the Sidhe tongue. I will put all the information written on scraps of paper into World Anvil before I lose it. Then I will work on finishing the grammatical framework for the Sidhe language. In addition, I will write an article on how Common/ Humanish changes depending on which ethnicity is speaking it.
I will tackle my ever-growing stubs pile. This is probably something like the dishes, as soon as you finish the "last" dish someone puts another one on the counter to be cleaned. But, progress should be made!
I will completely revise my race articles particularly those in Lapansi. Now that I am more familiar with the species article template, I want to move things that are in the wrong place and update them.
10,000 words go by fast. A lot of things that I hoped I would get to, I didn't. So I will write the articles that I planned to write during World Ember that I didn't such as ships, more species, and more places.
One thing I have realized, but not from reading the articles exactly, is that I enjoy these challenges. I will be participating in more challenges this year than last.
Finally and perhaps most importantly, I will have fun!
