Adda Brownlock

Adept Adda Jane Brownlock

Adda is the priest of the Church of the Sacred River and maintains the chapel of the same name in Tubridge. She is also a permanent member of Tubridge Town Council representing the churches interests there and has held the position for over thirty five years.   She has remained unmarried her entire life, always stating that she just doesn't have time for useless husbands and children. Despite this, she is close friends with many of the other Longfoot families in the town and is often treated as an extra 'aunty' by the children.   Her true passion is the chapel in the town and its care. She can almost always be found in or around the chapel, often working in the gardens that are attached. She loves to plant new species of plants trying to see what she can coax to grow in the area. She has had considerable success in this area with some of her work being added to the Hemerology of Future Phases, the sacred book of the church. Her current projects include growing new types of grasses given to her by the Wild Naalva from the plains to the south to see what they may be useful for.

Physical Description

Facial Features

She has always had quite fair skinned for a Laethin, with prominent freckles across her nose and cheeks.   While her face can seem quite stern at first, it is always quick to break into a smile. She has a particular delight in seeing children at play and discovering new plants.

Apparel & Accessories

Most of the time she wears her priest robes, but even when she is 'off duty' she likes to wear the sand and purple of the priesthood. She claims that she is 'just used to those colours after all these years'.   Often you will find that her fingers are stained, and the bottom of her robe is a little grubby from where she has been working in the garden or even as she walks around the town. If she spots a plant that needs a little attention she often cannot help herself.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Adda was born in Sandrush, in the southwest of what is now Drusovar. She was the third child of a family of six children, but the eldest girl.   her lifelong love of plants was sparked when she was just ten years old and grew some pea plants on the kitchen windowsill of her family's home. From that point forward, she knew that the magic of life could be at her fingertips. For the next few years, she tried to learn all she could, even learning to read, something none of the rest of her family could do. After studying hard for several years she applied to join the seminary in Yewfalls at age fifteen and was immediately accepted.

Education

As a student within the seminary, she was a fairly average student in most subjects. Her love of plants showed through though, along with her newfound passion for reading. She had little interest in history or politics, or truth be told, the saint to which the church was dedicated. While she did her work diligently in these other subjects, she was not outstanding.   Everyone could see that it was the plants, and learning everything about them where she excelled. Over the five years of her seminary, she would spend every spare daylight hour out in the cathedral fields, and every other hour studying.

Employment

Upon graduation from the seminary and taking the title of Novice Priest, it is normal to be assigned to a small country church somewhere as the assistant to the resident priest there., thus spending five more years learning from that older priest.   This is not how things were for Adda. She was assigned as the assistant to a priest named Markin Ernhar. He was a missionary who spent his time in the far north spreading the word of Saint Eloisa to the clans of Taned-Mada all across that region.   They spent most of that first summer just getting to the region, and travelling up into the mountains, then as autumn quickly turned to winter, they were forced to spend the whole winter within the lodge of only the second clan they had met. The next spring they moved on to another clan and spent the whole summer moving from one clan-lodge to another. And that's how it was for the whole of her five years as a novice.   For most of this time, she was desperately unhappy, it was not in her Longfoot nature to keep moving from place to place, the only thought that kept her going was that it was only for a few years and then she would get re-assigned to a permanent position. She did learn a lot about the plants of the northern mountains, however, and this was a small glimmer of light in an otherwise dark time in her career.   After her apprenticeship when she found that she would be heading to Tubridge, she was overjoyed. The previous resident had passed away six months before, leaving the town in the care of a second-year novice. She took over as the resident of the oldest church outside Yewfalls and has never looked back.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Her greatest achievement came twenty years ago when the conclave of bishops decided to add her work into 'The Book of the Field', one of the holy books of the church.
