Spectral Scalpel

The Reef, despite its many wonders and curiosities, is unfortunately not a place easily traversable. Well, at least not for a spirit with legs. Regardless of how or why a spirit ends up in the Reef, one thing is always a certainty: they must undergo a necessary transformation. Most notably, spirits must willingly sacrifice their legs in replacement for a technologic fish tail enhancement, allowing them to more easily navigate and traverse the azure depths of the Reef. In order to achieve such a feat, spirit scientists have developed aethereal tools to aid in the process. The spectral scalpel, one of many of these newly created tools, was specifically designed to offer a somewhat swift and painless surgical procedure.

Flowing with spectral essence, the scalpel allows scientists and surgeons to easily create precise incisions into the incorporeal bodies of those being operated on. When asked afterwards about how they felt after the procedure, a large majority of spirits claimed to feel little to no discomfort whatsoever, some even questioning whether or not the scalpel was used in the first place.

Despite its simple and approachable design however, the scalpel is still bladed and if used incorrectly, could lead to very severe effects. Because ghostly skin tissue is very light and delicate, too many inaccurate incisions can lead to permanent skin deformation, making it nearly impossible to accurately affix enhancements to the incorporeal body. Not to mention, due to its small, handheld design, it can also be a tool easily converted to a dangerous street weapon. While extremely rare, especially in the Reef, every now and then, a spirit will find their unlikely second demise to the blade of the spectral scalpel. Despite these assaults, the spectral scalpel still serves as a very effective doctor’s tool and continues to aid spirits passing onward into the Reef.
