Artificial Fins

Artificial fins are a common genetic modification to improve a soul’s swimming capabilities. By splicing human DNA with that of aquatic creatures, fins can be grown on arms. In a similar fashion, legs can be fused together and grow scales, turning into a tail. This modification is extremely popular as it will make one resemble a merfolk very closely. The physical therapy for this modification is long and arduous, taking from 1 to 5 years for the numerfolk to completely adapt to their new appendages and learn how to swim properly. It also has the drawback of not being able to walk on land anymore, however uncommon this may be for a numerfolk.
