The Day of Broken Hearts

Disaster / Destruction

80
22/6

Solana, elven mother of two, blessed of Eilyri, became the first murdered in Nabyu's history. With elves naturally immortal lifespans, the first death occurred when Solana killed her son Tanyl's fiancé, Ava. The resulting heartbreak of the tragedy killed Tanyl, and Ava's family, the most devastating event in Eil'Havan's short history. Solana's surviving son, Killian, was forced to put his mother out of her tortured misery along with two citizens- Masadi and Ena. These events formed the goddess of death, Chesis, and eventually the secession of "Tanyl".

Before the 80th year following the creation of Nabyu, far before the world was named, the nation of Eil'Havan lived in peace and abundance. 3 generations of elves had been pulled from their mote of potential, and lived under the protection of their goddess. None had attempted to leave the isle until Ava and Tanyl- young elves who had fallen in love and yearned for adventure across the sea.
Tanyl was the son of Solana, a fiercely protective mother and devout worshipper of Eilyri. When Solana learned of her son's intent to leave the island, she beseeched the aid of her goddess to protect her son from Ava's wicked temptations. In return, she was granted a dagger with which she could defend her beloved son, but at a terrible cost.
In the town square, Solana killed Ava for all to witness, not knowing the price she would pay. Heartbreak, previously only an illness known to elves that could be recovered with time and healing, killed those whose grief became unbearable. Tanyl died in his lover's arms and at his mother's feet amidst the screams of Ava's grieving family, who also lay victim to Solana's selfishness.
In result, the Solana's dagger corrupted her into a form of fire and obsidian, and threatened to lay waste to the city in her rage and despair. Only by the quick reactions of Masadi and Ena, two onlookers of the tragedy, and by the pleading of Solana's surviving son Killian was the city spared Solana's rampage. Struck down, Solana's last words were of apology, and reached the grieving Killian.
In a span of a few minutes, the world's first tragedy claimed the first 6 deaths, which in turn created the need for a collector of the newly departed souls. Chesis, a tall woman with a heavy coat and tearful eyes, appeared to Killian, and ensured that when mortals depart from this world, they will be offered dignity and gentleness- even the world's first murderer.
Upon the vision of this goddess, Killian took up Tanyl and Ava's dream- to sail across the sea to new life and to create a new society, which did not fear heartbreak and loss but rather embrace it. Masadi, the woodworker, created the land's first memorial, and used a divine gift of seafaring to craft ships to carry them afar. They would create Tanyl, the first city of Flodesti.
In turn, Ena led those who still wished to stay at their island home- but with renewed conviction to never fall victim to heartbreak again. With exception of their sister city across the sea, none would ever have the opportunity to break the hearts of Eil'Havan again.
