Trade Monopolies of the Realm

Financial Event

After acquiring most of the Aredián Sea, the Navelian Republic had the challenge of restructuring and reconstructing the Isles that were, up until the end of the crusades, under a theocratic monarchy. In the process of establishing the Islands own local councils, the trade companies of the Navelians became larger and larger, and operated with the official sponsorship of the Republic's Senate. These companies were known as the North Navelian Trade Company (SCNN) and The South Aredián Trade Company (SCSA) and would be the only operational apparatus for trade in the Aredián Sea, at least in theory that was supposed to be the case. However, the Merchant Monopolies were forced to compete with the commerce of commoners who could swim or use their boats to take goods wherever they wanted and a population that would mostly self-subsist without the need of a central power. Making an economic environment that can’t be easily centralized by would-be monopolistic monoliths without the use of underhanded tactics or force. So a combination of both ideas was utilized by the trade companies, which would have heavy consequences for the future.

Similar monopolies are also sponsored in Arenia and Charstania but didn’t have as near as much power as the Aredián born ones, due to being the primary providers in sugar, tobacco and lumber. All things that both Illagua and Talarena desired in bulk.
