Military action
The instability caused by the revolts during the Crusades period created a rift between the land's nobility and peasants that grew like a festering wound for centuries. The breaking point being Cicloism spreading to not just the commoners, but some of the nobility as well, most notably the daughter of Duke Varon, Duchess Xilda Varon. These were not welcome developments to most of the Confederations Consell, as Illagran was the last place in the realm to encourage veneration of the old Gods and many reacted defensively to the spread of Cicloism. Consell sessions leading up to this event were a chaotic mess of members denouncing each other, and even half hour long preaching sessions (which was the origin of the saying “giving 30 minutes”), where members who worshiped the old Gods treated their position in the Consell as a pulpit to waste time and not let Cicloist members speak. Eventually a large majority of the members of the Consell, including High King Matias Laza-Paz de Dref Newydd would throw in support for a ruling that would renounce any Cicloist nobility of their titles because they did not have the Divine Right to rule and manage their territories, kicking off the 1st Civil War.
Although the Cicloist faction only numbered a few nobles, they had the support of the commoners where many of them were cicloist. The nobles who fought against the Consell were mainly in Val Veiga with the addition of Outeidade and Porto Branca, and would have been outnumbered by the rest of the Confederation if it weren’t for many of the commoners being cicloist in the counties still in the Consell who disapproved of their rulers. Another big advantage was Duchess Varon keeping control of Porto Area, where she received support from the Arenian Tiran and Navaleian Mercenaries, making her the most important member of the Cicloist Faction. The second part of the cicloist strategy was the most important, maintaining a pacifist approach. Large scale fighting is uncommon in Illagua, and whenever it was conducted the defeated party would typically quickly surrender or retreat and whatever dispute there was was considered settled. A battle that is shrouded in myth was the Battle of Madeidade, where Duchess Varon and her army sailed with river boats to Madeidade and requested they’d be able to pass to Apaz. The Garrison complied with Varon in direct defiance of their Lord's orders and she was able to sail towards Apaz without bloodshed. Halfway to Apaz she was intercepted by the High Kings Niwleiros and was held in a tense standoff where neither would budge for days until Varon and High King Laza would finally talk where he conceded his place on the throne, ending the war. Xilda Varon would be voted for High Queen of Illagua of the new Consell, and established another separate Consell, the Consello dos Comúns, that represents people outside of the nobility such as merchants and mayors of towns.
