Tunnelmaw Hollow

The underground city state of Tunnelmaw Hollow is the most culturally influential of the Field Goblin(Rootkin in their own words) cities.
A lot of it is attributed to its location, as well as to the quality of the sediment & minerals of that particular area, allowing the goblins to dig deeper and sculpt grander buildings than would otherwise be possible.
Seeing as Tunnelmaw Hollow is at the center of the Great Fields, most goblins find it far easier to meet at this half-way point than to risk getting snagged by a great eagle while out in the open due to the exposed nature of travel on the plains. And to this, the clever engineers of the rootkin have long worked on creating an elaborate system of tunnels that connects the other major rootkin cities, or at least, attempts to leave access points into the tunnel system throughout the Fields.

Demographics

The population is 98% Field Goblin, however, as Tunnelmaw Hollow is the grandest of Field Goblin cities, it's size accomodates humans and the like, at least in its streets, there are still designated areas in which taller folk must live.
The remaining two percent is comprised of 1.2% Starmist Goblin , while the remaining is evenly split between the taller species that lives in the city due to being part of an ambassador's party or are prospects for apprenticeship under Rootkin architects & Malt Masters.

Government

Tunnelmaw Hollow is under the supervision of the largest clans in the city.
Each head of clan specializes in their own section of duties.
Specializations ranging from road maintenance, to agriculture, & defense to name a few.
The only section that lies outside of this jurisdiction is Maltroot Hall, which is in the care of the Malt Masters.

Infrastructure

The architects of the Hollow are a dedicated sort, their desire to provide their fellow rootkin with the best quality of life possible is impressive, even so for the already community-driven rootkin.
They enthusiastically work to build & design sewers and other methods of waste disposal, as well as providing a means for the residents to receive clean water. However, the area where most of their resources are spent on, is the construction of a series of tunnels spanning across the Great Fields, connecting the rootkin city states to each other, thus keeping travelling rootkin safe from the ever watching great eagles that prey on them.
The rootkin make great use of the domesticated Hammerhead Beetle, an insect the size of a small bus. The beetle itself is great for transportation as well as construction, as it's able to use its spaded front to quickly dig through earth & stone. The rootkin transport a good number of themselves on the backs of these beetles, allowing them to cross long distances thanks to their industrious insectoid friends.

Districts

Maltroot Hall

Here at Maltroot Hall, the most respected and renowned brewers are sought after for their knowledge.
Maltroot Hall may reside within the chambers of the Tunnelmaw Hollow, it acts more as its own independent organization. This would be due to the Maltroot Hall being a gathering of rootkin from all over the Great Fields, all of them brought forth by the love of their craft, and their desire to advance it. As well as the demand for rootkin-alcohol having sky-rocketed as the humans of the Karamarian Union, their naval, trade-minded neighbors, have acquired a taste for the stuff. Thus, Maltroot Hall also sees a disproportionate amount of non-rootkin visiting its chambers.

While brewing itself was always a respected profession, this new profitable market led to the rise of the Malt Masters as a political and economic power in the Hollow. It's certainly not something that the Hollow's prominent clans appreciate, and there has certainly been friction growing between the formal government and the strengthened influence the Malt Masters have gained.

Physically, the Maltroot Hall is an amalgamation of several neighborhoods, with an open courtyard at its center. This is where the Malt Masters make announcements and hold contests.

Points of interest

Bramble Colosseum
If there's anything that the rootkin love more than a good bit of ale, it's gotta be their fiery love for any sort of competitive game.
Rootkin of all ages will crowd around to watch as others go toe to toe at the Bramble Colosseum. While it may not be the largest of the rootkin-made arenas, it's certainly the most grandiose in its design. The customary eagle-head entryways associated with the tunnels leading down into the city itself are on proud display on opposite sides of the arena. Through these doorways the teams meet each other in the game-field.
The arena lends itself well to modification, quickly being changed into which ever game of the day is at the fancy of the crowd.
Grudges also tend to be resolved at the Colosseum as well, whether those be petty rivalries, to settling feuds as well. Though those feuds still tend to flare up after a while.

Tourism

Tunnelmaw Mudbaths
Yet another staple of rootkin civilization, these communal baths are where most rootkin end their long days of work. This includes folks from different walks of life, from the Malt Masters and Elders, to craftsmen and laborers. The quality of the soil in the area certainly makes these baths stand-out amongst the already excellent mudbaths of other rootkin settlements. A tingling sensation washes over the bathers as the mud seems to draw away impurities from the body.
Regular baths are also built into the facility, albeit in a different chamber.

The maintenance required to upkeep these baths is easily one of the biggest drains on the finances of the Hollow. Requiring constant vigilance to make sure the mud does not dry up. While the effects of the mud itself is greatly beneficial to the body, the components themselves tend to dry up rather quickly. This requires a constant stream of rootkin to keep the baths running. However, due to the importance that these baths have for the people of the Hollow, these workers are generally looked upon with respect.

While access to the baths is free, it's encouraged to leave a donation.
