Nib

Basic Information

Anatomy

A nib is a small bunny like creature with large feathery ears. Between the ears are two stubby horns, on it's back are two large wings. It's front legs resemble those of a cat's, but it's back legs are tipped with sharp hooves. It's long tail is easily twice it's size and ending in a tuft of fur/feathers.

Genetics and Reproduction

Nibs are much like rabbits here as well, breeding often and indiscriminately. Pregnancy lasts generally 6 weeks and this results in a high population of the cute little creatures.

Growth Rate & Stages

Nibs grow to full adulthood within a year, and, if given the right cercumstances, can live to be hundreds of years old. This is rare for a number of reasons: Nibs are small and taste good with many natural preditors, nibs are delicate creatures and are easily frightened often ending in a heart attack, Nibs are very breakable with thin hollow bones, if injured a nib will likely die within days or weeks of injury. If a nib does reach it's thousandth year is will become a nibstag, but this hasn't happened for so long, many think it's just a legend or myth.

Ecology and Habitats

Most nibs when left to the wild can be found nesting in trees. They will create small colonies in nearby forests or jungles. Although they can adapt easily to any environment.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Nibs mostly eat fruits and flower blossoms, although if living in a climate where that is not likely, they can be found digging for roots.

Social Structure

They are a very social species, living in widespread colonies in the wild.

Domestication

Nibs make wonderful pets, they are gentle and quiet and are prone to sleeping a lot. They are also trained to be carriers, flying mail all over the continent of Atone.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

it's massive ears give it a hightened sense of hearing, which is coupled with the extremely sensitive feathers at their tips which can pick up tension in the air, be it magical or emotional and sometimes even physical. This allows the nib to be hyperaware of it's surroundings and what danger might be lurking nearby.

10 years (but is capable of living for hundreds)

Conservation Status

A mildly sacred animal in the The Order of Atar because of it's ties to the Nibstag. As such nibs are an extremely popular pet in Leuth.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking

Nibs are generally white in color, with the tips of their feathers being black, leading to a speckled look.
