Lace moss

Lacemoss is one of the more plentiful plants found on myrth, the thin delicate looking plant skimming over the ground up up the sides of trees to dangle like spidersilk from the lofty branches.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A thin white groundcover that spreads in a frost-like pattern.

Genetics and Reproduction

This type of moss belongs to the Poleurocarpous Moss family. A Pleurocarpous is a type of moss in which the female sex organs (archegonia) and capsules are borne on short, lateral branches, and not at the tips of branches. Pleurocarpous mosses tend to form spreading carpets rather than erect tufts.

Growth Rate & Stages

Lace moss is a very quick growing plant, considering it's a moss, spreading like a weed over any ground it lays claim to, easily encompassing a fifty foot radius in two or three months given the right conditions.

Ecology and Habitats

Lace moss prefers shaded areas, the shadowy floor of a forest, and the rocky indents of cliffs are the usual places the plant can be located. It has no problem climbing all over any surface it can find and is often seen draping in sheer white curtains from lofty locations.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Lace moss is well known for it's healing properties. Many cultures across myrth harvest the plants to use them in poultices or grind them up and put them in foods such as soups to help prevent illness. Some of the known properties of the plant are: purification, healing, and peace.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Wood elves in particular have taken a liking to the lace moss, using it, among other plants, to decorate their homes. They carefully guide the plant's growth to suit their needs or tastes, twisting it up and around trees or dangling it from their bridges or houses. It makes a striking contrast to the dark greens and brightly colored flowers that otherwise frame their cities.
