Rift Court

Purpose / Function

Rift Court is in the center of Myridiam and is the sacred place where The Council of Whispers reunites to take the important decisions that will affect the rest of the inhabitants of the continent. It also is where the new Speakers spend their first night in order to receive the blessing of the Fallen Witches and name a new Lead Speaker, who is also chosen by their mythical figures.

Design

The dimensions of the lake in the center of Rift Court are approximately 20m each side, but it's depth is unknown. The white stone pillars are at the lake's border and they are around 4 and a half meters long, with a 2 meters width.

Entries

Rift Court is settled on the center of the island and it is surrounded by small plants and trees, and while it is easy to access the stone pillars and the lake, to reach the island there is a methodic approach that must be followed.   This consists on the Speakers wearing their formal attire and getting on the two wooden ships that are stored on a special place in Rift City's port thanks to their magical properties. The ships will follow the magic flow and without any intervention they will be able to get out of the fog and arrive to their destiny safe and sound.

Sensory & Appearance

While Speakers are not allowed to talk about their experiences in this particular place, whenever they discussed about it the three phrases and thoughts that predominate are:
  1. It feels as if there is someone watching over your shoulder, specially near the lake and pillars.
  2. The air feels thick and it gives the impression of being in a dream.
  3. If the lake wasn't there you wouldn't notice the passing of time, since there is no hunger nor thirst.

Denizens

The isle on where Rift Court is located has no other living beings outside of it's plants.

Valuables

Rift Court doesn't have any details that might be considered valuable out of the stone itself, which is weird to find these days and even in ancient times was considered a luxury.

Hazards & Traps

The only hazard or threat referring to Rift Court would be the fact that it is kind of difficult to get pass the fog that surrounds it, that is if you don't believe the superstitions that refer to those who dare to enter without being worthy...

Special Properties

Even if it hasn't been proved, when a decision must be taken during the Council meetings the Speakers never feel hunger or thirst, and even being separated by meters, they can hear each other without even needing to raise their voice.

Alterations

Rift Court is the only place in Myridiam, alongside the various Nexus, that hasn't been altered from when it was first established by the first Tamers that arrived to Myridiam and built the stone circle to honor the sacrifices of their leaders during the creation of the Rift.

Architecture

The motive behind the design of Rift Court is still unknown, and each stone pillar has a different set of symbols carved into it. These symbols correspond to the Magical Division each Speaker represents and it is said that every time a new person takes this position another carving appears.   The pillars are carved on pure white stone, and are around four and a half meters long. Even if it hasn't been confirmed, Tamers believe that if the truce for peace is broken on this sacred sanctuary the pillars and the lake itself will take a reddish color to symbolize the anger of the Fallen Witches and all their ancestors.

Defenses

Rift Court doesn't have a set of defenses, and hasn't ever been attacked thanks to it's spiritual meaning. Still there is an old myth that affirms that if someone tries to approach the isle with unworthy and evil purposes then they'll end up lost on the fog that covers the water that surrounds it's land. And that no one will hear of that person again.

History

Rift Court was the place where the first Speakers reunited to establish the laws, rules and corresponding lands to each Magical Division. Alongside the place they named sacred and that represented the Fallen Witches at their fullest.   Shortly after this, they built a circle with six white-stone pillars where the Speakers were to sit during their reunions, these pillars would glow with the moonlight and the time that passes while making their decisions can be seen with the reflection of the moon in the small lake that is between the rocks.   For generations the Speakers solved problems that way, some of the most important Speakers had their big acts on a reunion of the Council of Whispers. And even one of the famous figures of Myridiam had her debut at this sacred space. Her name was Ilkira Streamhart.   And after an exception was extended to her on behalf of the Lead Speaker of the time, she traveled to Rift Court and while how is still unknown to others, she managed for them to stop the incoming war which would reach the same proportions than the Rifting Skirmish if not even bigger scales.   Lastly, Rift Court is where the Rifting Skirmish started, shortly after the Speaker of Sielu and the Lead Speaker convinced the other Speakers to take a stand but they couldn't reach an agreement.

Tourism

Rift Court is prohibited to everyone expect for the current Speakers and those who have already passed the correspondent trials to become Speakers themselves. The only known exception to this rule has been Ilkira Streamhart.
