Iliana, the Spring Sovereign

Iliana is often referred to as ' The Sun's Muse' or 'The Songstress of Spring'. She is often regarded as the deity of Life and Rebirth. She also symbolizes new beginnings and the start of new journeys. She is a patron of young children and new growth. Farmers and new parents often give offerings to ensure the health and growth of their children and crops. Every year upon the spring solstice the sun sovereign Tokal takes from his heavenly throne to attempt to win the heart of Iliana. Yet every year his advances are thwarted by her twin brother, the Summer Sovereign Korus. As a result of this, the days grow shorter and the sun retreats into the heavens in his shame, giving way to autumn and winter.
