The Schism

By Konrad Bennett Hughes
A dark age, called the Schism, came upon the world after the destruction of the Isulstad and the temples. The ten ancient kingdoms were torn apart by war, disease, and disaster; Benselot is one of the few to have survived the millennia of turmoil. Despite having shrank in size and power, the Kings and Queens of Benselot have kept much of their ancient lands, preserving both the culture and magic of a bygone era. As the centuries pass, much of the old ways, the path taught by the Gods has been lost, and few people can summon the power of the Gods. However, the line of Langenberg, rulers of the Northern kingdom, have not forgotten. After Anaxaneas’ death, the Fall of Isulstad, the Rebellion of Typhoon, and the loss of the Western armies across the Turquoise Sea to the demon infested continent, the Gods and Goddesses decided to behead Obmhann for his machinations in all the troubles, since the death of the hero Anaxaneas. They used a magical gate upon the Isulstad mount, to sever his head, sending it into Oblivion. Obmhann reappeared within several centuries, though rarely at first, but with an otherworldly new power burgeoning within him. With the beheading of Obmhann and his resurrection by his cultic followers, a new power was born, Necromancy. Power over the undead was before unseen by man. Its first rising is marked as the First of the Magic Wars, which would last centuries. (About 1500 years Ago) No one had practiced such horror before, nor was any other known magic able to awaken the dead. Reborn with the head of a jackal, the God of Trickery, Obmhann, now sought revenge upon the pantheon. Opening the doors wide for his followers to master warlockery, a new age of magic emerged, more terrifying and horrible than any other. Many of demi-gods, who controlled the lesser forces of nature, had grown discontent and now gathered behind the Jackal headed God seeking redress and retribution. Typhoon, the Black Winged Horse demi-god, the ever jealous second child to Forstora, after his rebellion, now crosses the seas and lands at his own will, bringing terrible retribution down upon mankind. He ever seeks to destroy the cycles of the seasons, thwarting any attempt at bridling his rage, as he calls down horrendous storms to swallow cities in torrential waves or cyclones of dust, killing tens of thousands every year, ever stunting the growth of civilization.
