Sphinx Types and Relations

Sphinxes – always born the twin of a Griffon. Untamable and entirely sentient. Usually serve as protectors of magical/holy places.
Chimera – When the creation of a Sphinx-Griffon pair went wrong, a Chimera emerged. Untamable and wild, they are deadly creatures to encounter. These multiheaded beasts combine several different animals’ characteristics as well as personalities, usually making them insane. No clear typification of these beasts as they come in all shapes and sizes.
Serpopard - Serpent-necked lion bodies creatures of a vicious nature.
- Purusha Mriga - Great cat bodies, man faced creatures with the wings of an eagle that love riddles
- Androsphinx - Man headed with no wings
- Criosphinx - Ram headed -
- Hierakosphinx – Eagles Headed -
- Lamassu – Great man-headed sphinx that guard the Matia on Isulstad
- Anzû – Lionheaded winged, able to breathe fire and water
- Manticore – (the most volatile of all Sphinx) head of a human, the body of a lion and a tail of venomous spines similar to porcupine quills, while other depictions have it with the tail of a scorpion
- Simurgh - a peacock with the head of a dog and the claws of a lion – it can change its face into that of a human
- Kotobuki- rarest of all Sphinx, it has the head of a rat, the ears of a hare, the horns of an ox, the comb of a rooster, the beard of a sheep, the mane of a horse, the neck of a dragon, the back of a boar, the shoulders and belly of a tiger, the front legs of a monkey, the rear legs of a dog, and the tail of a snake.
