History – Half Elf Tyrant, Dragon King, and Herul Korg

By Konrad Bennett Hughes
Aasipanyar, Goddess of Knowledge, was lover to Obmhann for centuries, but with his beheading, she and Yama fell in love. Since they have flourished together. Stone working skills of ancient times, of Dwarven skill, are reemerging all over where their cults flourish. New metal alloys are being forged in the Forges of the Cavernous Halls of Yama, which dot the continents. The two sullen Gods are a perfect match for one another, hiding, deep in the depths of the earth, far away from the troubles abounding upon the surface of the world.   The Firstborn Children of Aasipanyar and Obmhann were the High Elves. Magic wielders, ever seeking the wisdom of eldritch design. The one of the greatest of these Learned Elves lived in the centuries after the Golden Age, erecting a tower on the Foothills of the Dividing Mountains near the great city of Telephos. Elandia brought together one of the greatest conclaves of knowledge, rivaling even the Libraries of Isulstad, the city-isle, and Hcarkyani, city of Knowledge, in her spire of opalescent white.   The Pearl Tower was destroyed by her spurned lover the Bruce’s liegemen though. They came clad in armor gifted to them by the High Elf Sorceress herself in friendship many years before. Armor impervious to magic. She had given them the very means of her own destruction, if only divination had been cast upon gifts more often in those years of blissful progress. All the knowledge of the High Elves of the Pearl Tower was destroyed, all the High Elves scattered to the distant reaches of the Earth. Not the last of the tragedies of Elandia’s line, however. Her grandson was the Half-Elf Tyrant whose name has been struck from all records. He conquered most of the Three Continents, forcing the Kingdoms to appeal to the Dragon King in a final effort of defense to throw the Half-Elf Tyrant down.   Born of the Great Fire Worm, Drakon, and the Doom Serpent Apophis, the Dragon King, Herensuge, was the most powerful of all dragons and the first to have wings. His children were the Dragons of ancient times, but his forbearers were the Great Worms which wrought this planet’s very bones, which created the lands and sea. In the age of Elves and Dwarves, when man still only dwelt on the holy island of Isulstad, all the Great Worms were slain by champions. The last of them to survive was Drakon, but he was eventually killed by the grizzled adventuring Dwarf, Snoggri.   After slaying the horrific beast, Snoggri tore its eyes from their sockets only to discover them to be immense rubies. He then took the gems to the greatest jewel crafter of all the Dwarves, Herul Korg, who would, centuries later during the Golden Age, forge the Helm of Sight and Amulet of the Dead for Emperor Anaxaneas.   Herul Korg worked long with the precious stones, perfectly carving the edges into the finest jewels. Then taking True Gold from the veins of the earth, he wrought a crown of unspeakable beauty. He placed the gigantic rubies upon its brow. Great power was invested into the Diadem of Triumph’s shaping. Though that was not the name he gave it. Smul-off-kor-ing was the Dwarven title for this wonderous icon of power, meaning the band plucked from the fire of the earth.   With the last shards of the immense rubies, Herul Korg crafted a lesser crown and scepter, but Snoggri would not take them for himself, gifting the pair to the great Dwarven smith. Snoggri’s tale is sad, as he would lose the Diadem of Triumph before gifting it to his beloved. But Herul Korg long held onto the Crown and Scepter of Flames, as they are now known. It was not until the days of the Half-Elf Tyrant, that Herul Korg in his dying wish, gifted them to a Night Elven Lady of Qorong'ilik named Vityr, daughter of Vandryn, the Lady Night of Shadowstad.   The human kings betrayed the Dwarves and Elves though, as one of them Donnaster Dimmold (aka Donnie Dime), with the help of his brothers, sought to take both the Crown and Scepter of Flames and the Night Lordship for himself. Making an evil pact with O’lim, God of Death, Donnaster Dimmold and his kin were granted the everlife of Elves but through undeath, as they became the first Vampires of human stock. His newfound power was immense and untamable. When he struck at the Night Elves in Shadowstad, Vandryn was captured, the pocket-realm Bakliva was created by his evil desires, and the Crown and Scepter were lost forever in a destroyed Dwarven Fortress, until a small Forest Gnome named Nugget became too curious in the midst of battle. These wonderous items held within them the life essence of Drakon, who waited for his time to strike. Apparently the Dwarven Smith Herul Korg had used Drakon’s knowledge to craft many wonderous items, including the Helm of Sight and Amulet of the Dead. Ever promising to gift the Great Worm his freedom but never giving it, Herul Korg and all his line was cursed by Drakon, as all of his works of wonderous power shall come to utter ruin.   All these magical items are tainted by Drakon’s touch even if only through his knowledge of crafting. They are all cursed by his words of hate for Herul Korg. What does the Matriarch now endure? It is no wonder that all who have worn the Helm of Sight since its crafting have gone mad eventually?   Lady Vityr survived the Vampire’s attack though and wandered Myria for hundreds of years across the wide steppes under open skies. The slaying of Necromancers was her calling. Over time she became known as The White Wind to evil demons and friendly tribes alike. The bane to all evil and an aid to those in need. In time, however, she fell in love with a Great Chieftain of the Steppes of northern Rhodezephrys. A man covered in swirling black and red tattoos, with the gigantic arms of a smith, and a heart of gold, but that is another tale***wink***(Dintyr's Story).   Dragon King Herensuge only had one demand before he would aid mankind in their battle with the Half-Elf Tyrant. He wished for a colony of 50,000 humans to come to live on his Island, to live under the embrace of the Dragons. The Kingdoms agreed and the poor and hungry from long wars were sent to the Dragons King’s Wandering Isle on the Smoking Sea, far to the South. A quick and bloody war ensued, ending as The Dragons crushed the Half-Elf Tyrant, along with his armies of Sorcerers, and reestablished human rule over the lands. The human Colony on the Wandering Isle thrived for a century until human Kings, after rebuilding their strength, grew jealous of its prosperity and an evil plot was hatched against their Drakonic allies. The Kings went on enormous propaganda campaigns against the Dragons in far-away lands, reminding everyone of the Tyranny of the Half-Elf. Claiming the Dragon King had already become too powerful to be allowed to grow any greater. In a preemptive strive they assaulted the Wandering Isle. A massive Crusading army brought on an enormous fleet, men, whose grandfathers told stories of the War and the Half-Elf Tyrant, came from lands all over the Three Continents and set sail into the Smoking Sea.   The Dragon King and his Thirteen Kin defended their shores with Fire, burning hundreds of ships, roasting thousands of men before they could drown. They appeared out of thick fog, with the breath of death, killing all. But, eventually, the Wandering Isle was taken, and the Dragons were almost all slain by the might and magics of man. The last Dragon, Lungroth, Queen of Dragons and wife of Herensuge, escaped into hiding with some of the human colonists, whom she had been defending the entire war.   Centuries later Dragons would again begin to populate all over the Three Continents. Shapeshifters, the children of the colonists, who in the embrace of the Dragon were granted immeasurable power, naming themselves “Lung Tik Chuan Ren”, The Children of the Dragon. They do not gather in great numbers and most avoid contact with men, at least while in Dragon form, as only one true Dragon still lives though, Lungroth. Some claim she was slain, some say she has aged and will not stir from her hidden lair. As the world turns again, Dragons are seen cruising the skies above desolate wastelands and high mountain peaks, seeking something, while their Mother slumbers.
