Elak'mul Galdur and Mok adventure

By Konrad Bennett Hughes
After the fort on the banks of the lower Hemfjall was retaken, the scouts of Lord Mok found the Barbani army encampment beyond. Nestled in a crook of the mountain arms, just off the Mountain Road, the camp was a jumble of tents and temporary shelters, little more than huts for the warriors. Galdur Rune and the Young Lord Mok led the ambush on the encamped army. The Barbani were defeated but a small contingent of their warriors escaped over the mountain’s arm headed north with a string of captives in tow. With the heavy losses from the battle, most of the Mok forces were not fit to fight, while many of the conscripted foresters and farmers desired to return home. So, Galdur and the Young Lord led a small contingent of ten men after the fleeing Barbani, unaware of where it would take them. Passing by the Ruined City on the Mountain Road, they caught up to their quarry. Then they were ambushed by some of the Barbani on the Sky Steps, losing six of their number in the fight. Some miles beyond, as the ancient Darkwall, they were again attacked, but this time not by men, but monsters call up from the past by the Warlocks Kilgore and _____. Leaving the road, they then crawled along the edge of the Knife of Krann, avoiding the road and any more traps that the Barbani warlocks might have left for them. Returning to the road, they encountered the levy’s of Elborg, led by their baron, heading toward the Barbani fort at the base of the High Pass. They joined in on the assault of the Fort, but once they had broken in, the warlocks and their bodyguard had fled with most of the captives, only a few were found slain in the ruins of the fort. Chasing after, Galdur and Lord Mok took the High Pass into the southeastern arm of the Oska Bergs. They were able to thwart a second ambush and slay a number of Barbani, but when faced with a choice of paths, they found clues that the Warlocks had traveled off the trail to the Lost Temple. (The Warlocks were seeking an ancient cache of scrolls that had information on where they could find a Demon Gate in these lands. They find the scrolls, that told them it was beneath an ancient fortress in Isvieldara, but it was uncertain which, Skyddara, Beskydad, or Bavarborg, but Mok and Rune catch up to them in the Lost Temple. A battle in the ruined sanctuary ensues, leaving more dead on both sides, with the Warlocks escaping again but releasing a demon trapped below the temple. It is utterly destroyed in the wake of the monster, Mok and Rune’s party is able to defeat or flee from it though. The Warlocks then take the Path of Elak, the holy trail that led from an ancient Ruined City, Bendlish, to the Lost Temple. If they find the same scrolls and know it was what the Warlocks were there for they can decern where they are headed. If Runa and Mok flee the creature, they are forced to take a cave tunnel? Either taking the caves or coming from the Ruined city (which is haunted), they can go to the Keeper’s Tower, where they meet Harmog Blitzum, the astronomer and magician who will provide supplies, which are running low, and join them. But not after resting. They are attacked in the night by the Warlocks who think Harmog is alone, hoping he has more information on the Gate or is ale to use his divination to decern which it is. If they don’t go to the tower, they meet Harmog on the road to Borg’dalla, and he provides supplies just recently purchased and joins them. They pick up the trail of the Warlocks near an old mine. Going in, they fight their way through Wazzle ambushes and a Drake, then come out the other side just north or south (depending on path taken) of Dalladum. They go to the village, but the Warlocks have brought a small force of Wazzles with them to raid. The party has to try to fight them off and save the villagers. Again they can make a choice, as the Warlocks head east across the Dalla’dum Valley toward the Oska Skog, they can follow and try to catch up or go to the Temple of Forstora where they can receive a blessing. The Warlocks go to the ruined city of Bebeskydad to find the last clue as to where the Demon Gate can be found. The city is inhabited by many half-giants, giants, some Wazzles, and a Red Dragon with her brood of hatchlings. They meet a Monster Hunter here and his brother, seeking to kill the dragon. After the city, the Party chases the Barbani Warlocks through the Oska Skogs, ambushed by Wazzles and forest creatures. Finally making it through, they escape to Oskamark, the burned out and nearly abandoned town but have lost the trail. An old man/woman left in the town tells them to go to the Sacred Grove. They can receive a blessing at the Sacred Glade and learn where the warlocks are from the forest creatures and a Wood Elf who joins them. The Warlocks left the forest via the Ovander River, headed to Barbrandium to resupply and get more Barbani warriors to join them. The party can go on to Forstora’s Wrath where they think the Demon Gate is (from the clues found earlier, but the Warlock altered the clues and the gate isn’t there. It is at Bavarborg.) They race to Bavarborg to stop the Warlocks. (Possible: the Warlocks have to go to Symmara, Korkadad, Disterborg, Syddara, and Beskyda, before going to Bavarborg to ignite the Guidance Stones for the Demon Gate. They party chases after them the whole way)
