The Howling Steppes

The Howling Steppes is vast, windswept grassland to the east of the Clearwater Marsh, stretching between the borders of the Trader's Union free cities and the far Forsari Heights. This region is known for its relentless winds, which create haunting howls that can be heard for miles. Attempts to settle the region have been met with resistance from both the elements and the nomadic tribes, making it difficult to establish any permanent settlements. The terrain is not conducive to agriculture, and attempts to settle have largely been abandoned by the Trader's Union.   Inhabitants of the Howling Steppes have adapted to the harsh conditions, learning to harness the power of the wind and live in harmony with the land. Among these are nomadic tribes of humans, centaurs, orcs, goblinkin, and tabaxi who have developed a deep understanding of the steppes and the creatures that call it home. These tribes are known for their horse-riding skills, and they rely on herds of hardy, wind-resistant animals for food, clothing, and transportation.   The grasslands are also home to fearsome predators that prowl the plains, such as dire wolves, saber-toothed tigers, and rocs. These creatures have evolved to blend in with their surroundings, making them dangerous hunters that are not to be underestimated.   Settlement attempts by outsiders have been met with resistance from both the nomadic tribes and the harsh elements of the region. The persistent winds, difficult terrain, and the fiercely independent nature of the nomads make it difficult for any permanent settlements to take root. However, the few hardy settlers who have managed to carve out a life in the Howling Steppes have earned the respect and admiration of the nomadic tribes, fostering a sense of camaraderie among those who call this wild region home.
