War of the Scale

Occurring mostly upon [at the time] the massive continent of Masara, this was the third cataclysm to befall Myrandria and possibly the most devastating. There was a longstanding history of the titans and gods keeping the powerful and ancient dragons at bay, preventing them from truly becoming a dominant force on the surface of the world. The first cataclysm, the Titanic Revolt, left a large vacancy in the domination of the surface. With titans no longer in the picture, only the gods were in the way. When the Sundering occurred, and the gods could no longer directly intervene in the Prime Material plane, this set in motion a devasting conflict.   The War of the Scale was a terrifying conflict that brought out the full force of the dragon race. While they fought across the world for nearly 200 years, most battles were concentrated in Masara, which was the largest continent at the time. Brutal battles waged between hundreds, even thousands of dragons. Details are sketchy of this conflict, but at some point when the war was reaching its critical mass, a massive event occurred at the center of the Masaran continent that detonated some sort of energy that quite literally shattered the continent and eradicated most of the dragons...in addition to a majority of other life on the continent. There were survivors on all sides, but the dragons have never quite recovered from this strange event. It was later known as the "Shattering", and is shrouded in mystery to this day.   Since then, the dragon race has withdrawn completely from the politics of the surface world and focused on mostly selfish endeavors. The few metalic dragons that still felt altruistic towards younger races were still seldom interested in going out of their way to assist. Dragon culture was forever changed by this singular event, which many still do not know the cause. Around this same time, the continent of Rolandia, which housed a highly advanced elven civilization, vanished completely and has not been seen or heard from since. All that remains Rolandia are references and what few survivors still exist, mulling around the world and not knowing what befell their ancestors.
