The Frost Fire Maiden Chapter 09

After a long rest, the adventurers ventured deeper into the chamber. Within this chamber, light seemed to flee, it was in total darkness if not for the lit torches that illuminated the path that was laud out before them. Ten feet in width from side to side that stretched into the black. As they looked over the side of this walkway, they could see, 15 feet below, another surface farther still was a thick blsckness that stretched endlessly. They ventured forth, their only exit barred by an eerie carnivorous ooze. It took little to no time for them to spot a light in the near distance, blue flames dancing subtly. These illuminaries, torches, were affixed to 4 load baring, five foot pillars, between them was a ten foot and ancient looking pillar. A pool of black corrosive ooze surrounding it.   Upon further investigation, they saw large non-terran glyphs etched into the base of the ancient pillar. Serevin observed the runes, fearing the worst as the words Rhul (Hoard, Gather) Thvo (Power) and Shivth'ha (Capture, Enslave) were inscribed upon it.   A large symbol of what looked to be an upward facing arrowhead with 5 lines facing downward from the arrowheads base . Triangular patterns spiralling inward run out from the arrowhead.   Just above, the grand symbol. The glyph for the word: kit'xho (Cage, Imprison, Trap)   To ascertain its nature, Serevin used mage hand on the ooze - no reaction . Penetrating its surface, she dug deep inside the viscous liquid to find a way out of this situation. Finding some relief in grasping a cylindrical object. Around it could be felt a hatch and a frame. She managed to get it to budge but the resistance was too much.   ==   Shel made her way round to the back of the pillar, finding one more inscription: Sjit'hko (Small, Insignificant, Weak), Tothok (Things, Dead, Instrument, Tool). Reasoning that a battle was afoot. She tried striking at the pillar but to no avail.   Knowing of adventures where secret doors and tunnels abound, Zakaleth got each member to pull a torch simultaneously, but to no avail.   Another bright idea, Zakaleth went back to the entrance of the chamber, using his tinderbox to light a flame in his arrow. He struck true at the entity blocking his exit. But it was in vain, sinking part way into the ooze before melting off and falling to the earth.   This idea inspired Shel, who in turn, removed a torch from its holster and slowly, carefully, lowered it into the pool of black ooze. Almost in an instant, the pool of black ooze lit up in a brilliant blue light. Shel evaded in too little time, pulling her arm back but it was too late. The Fire spread up her arm.   In an attempt to smother the fire, Serevin used Mage hand to cover up the fire. Ipon doing so, a sharp pain shot through her nerves, almost causing her to faint.   Seperated by a pool of fire, Shel quickly weaved her way through the pillars and sought assistance from her group. Using her free arm, she rummaged through her bags to find her loin cloth.  Still unwashed from when she last used it. In an attempt at smothering the fire, it dampened slightly before the loincloth was also ungulfed in flame.   Varis healed her wounds, the healing properties dampening the fire, weakeningit slightly, unfortunately his sleeve caught the fire and he too began to burn.   Unslaad, leading from Varis' example, layed on hands, radiating enough power to wash away the fire.   All the while, watching these fools playing with fire, Zak was laughing hysterically. He took out his flask, unscrewing it, and poured its contents over Shels still lit padding, dispersing it.   Checking on the fire. It was quickly burning away. They took a 20 minute rest before Sin was nominated to descend into the hatch.   Severen attemped to open with her mage hand, however it refused to budge.   ( Sin found hinself in a small chamber, )   As the black ooze receded. The fire quickly consuming it. The team made haste to retrieve the orbs but one was missing.   Holing onto it tightly.   Enraged, she threw the orb at Sereven. The impact almost knocking her back, but before the ball fell back into the water. Varis caught it with ease, and fled down the hall. The others followed suit, Sereven nose rather saw. Broken maybe?   As they made their way back to submit their items in the pillar they heard a voice from below, Sin cursing them for leaving him alone in this godforsaken place.   A javelin, on either end are decals of lightning shaped blades on either side. As they picked it up to place it on the  walkway, where there was more footing, they felt a crackle of energy surrounding it.   Each box looked fairly similar: one containing average sized boots that seemed to be made of some herbal or natural material. Different from typical leather boots.   Another held a standard looking ivory wand, this one with a small transparent orb near its tip   Two rings. One silver, the other bronze. The silver ring having seven small crystals embedded into it.   The bronze ring had intricate wave decals embedded into it. Inside can be seen fresh looking seaweed finely and firmly twisted to fit inside.   Relieved, the others began opening the vault to find a 1 and a half foot obsidian egg with cravks that emitted a faint scarlet glow.   A pull from the creature, many resisted. Unslaad, failed, though nothing outwardly changed. He could feel a disconnection between himself and his god. Though he also felt a sudden change in himself he couldnt quite put his finger on.   In frustration at their betrayal. Sin sought to take the egg, snatching it out of the hands of Serevin. Panicked, she put him to sleep, leaving a small crack in the egg.
