The Frost Fire Maiden Chapter 02

The group made plans to charge the Upper Deck. There were two staircases leading up to the upper deck so they split up, Varis Nailo and Shel (Rachele) to the right, Sin Davola to the left. The Unslaad made haste, down to the lower deck to prepate the other passengers to assist the remaining crew members.   By the time all three went to the upper Deck the doors were closed, heavy for a typical door for a Naval vessel., but this didn't deter the warrior from charging in. The others followed after, stopped short by a large bloated creature with tattered robes, huge in size, too big to fit through the doors at least. It faced was seemed to be two dwarven crew members and an elven scholar. The elder of tge two dwarves was clearly skilled, striking at the creature with practiced lethality, the youngest however proved to be rather clumsy, choosing its bow at close range, firing at ceilings and walls, and upon switch to his scimitar, loosening his grip, lodging it into the ceiling. Thankfully missing their would be messiahs. The cleric, however, was unarmed, hiding behind the elder dwarf for protection.   It was the Demonling that caught a glimpse of a creature moving at blinding speed. A gaunt creature…   It shook off the terror as he felt something impress itself upon his mind. Successfully resisting its effects. The others witnessing nothing, turned once again to face the immediate threat.   In such close quarters, the battle was fierce, so much so, that fat, flesh and steel blurred. As the ranger took shots at range, he would miss the large blubbering creature, which was inordinately fast for its size, his shots glancing off the warrior and elf.   The battle ended with the death of the huge beast. Its soldier, mourning over the loss of its queen, nuzzled itself up to her in an attempt to wake it. A sentiment far different from the other beasts that came prior. Though the adventurers chose to spare it, the elder Dwarf executed it promptly.   Orsik turned to the ship's helm and corrected its path, the coast of Leith could be seen in the horizon. All but Sin and Varis stayed on the bridge. Sin, making small talk with the Captain.   Varis caught sight of an array of harmless lights hovering in the palm of the dead beast. Intrigued he put out his hand as though to hold it, and the fires danced on his fingers coalescing into what seems to be a Tarot card. Curious about its nature, he held out the deck of cards to the elven stuard by the name of Asha, looking at him quizzidly, she shook his hand. “Greetings, I am Asha.” Perplexed by this turn of events, he greeted her also, and turned away, exhausted, back to his rack to get some rest. Maybe it would be gone by the time he wakes from his trance   Sin placed a hand on Orsiks shoulder. He turned giving Sin a sharp look. “Get your hands off me or i’ll cut em off” he growled. Feigning compliance, Sin expertly danced his fingers down Orsiks back, swiping a key that he then hid under his palm, and walked out the deck.   Arrived on shore, as they and others had woken up, a horn blared from above deck, a crew mate beckoning the passengers to come up top. As the others proceeded to go up above deck, Sin, stayed behind, trying to remain discreet, Varis, suspicious of the Demonling looked back to find Sin holding onto a key of some sort.   By the end of the journey, there remained 28 of the 36 passengers remaining. Each team would be broken up evenly. “The members of Lier are as follows...”, calling forth several dwarves and gnomes in simple clothing. “Tish”, calling out a Demonling couple adorned in leather armor and some half-orc muscle. He took a moment with the demonlings before continuing on down the list of groups, most of which consisted of a typical array of human and dwarven mercenaries.   Lastly, the crew member called out the member of Team “Sie”: “Rachel” he calls out. A tall Half-Orc woman walks out from amongst the group. Still bloodied from the battle. “Varis”, Stands beside her Unslaad Zakaleth “...Sin?” A moment for pause. “...Sin Davola.”   A demonling popped out from behind the group, “here”.   Rachel edges close to Varis “Was that the demon looking dude we saw earlier?” “Yeah, I think so”   It took a few minutes before they finally met with land, docking in Hayleys Harbor. As they got off the boat, Sin offered silver and a scroll to both Shel and Varis to pay them back for almost hitting them with a bolt. The irony of doing evil for penance disturbed the Cleric, rejecting the silver, but taking the scroll.   They were escorted out to the barracks, passing a colossal obelisk, a few miles in its radius, its peak almost piercing the heavens and round, into a courtyard, segregated from the town harbor. These barracks housed many units, spanning a few thousand.   The adventurers set up camp and rested for the days ahead, still somewhat shaken from their battle.
