Parasoza

the holy book of the Vopa religion

When the wormstone first came in contact with living beings in the world, Pemija's children and other astral creatures used them to try and manifest in their bodies. This results in fantastical transformations. Sumiga, a healing magician, discovered the connection between wormstone and the mutations. When he tried to expel the piece of astral soul, Pemija instead granted him visions of the astral world. Sumiga wrote the details of these visions in the book known as the Parasoza.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

While the original stone tablets are kept as pure as possible, away from any form of direct magic that might change them, copies are bound with magic. The paper or skin has ink written on it that is kept from smearing or being tampered with. The spell is usually maintained by the vubopa themself, but it is not uncommon for dedicated magicians to bind multiple copies at once.

History

After Sumiga wrote the original plates, they were brought to Najibu, the God Rock after its construction, where Sumiga held the first moti. They called together a large group of people away from the exposed rock and began to read the words aloud. At first, very few people stopped to pay attention, but when Sumiga began to go every day and repeat the lessons, people started to listen. When it became clear that there was a connection between wormstone and the transformations people were seeing in their own bodies and the bodies of their neighbors, Sumiga's words were taken more seriously and the tablets were taken for original distribution.   With paper and skin copies, Sumiga went door to door to explain the fundamental aspects of their world and eventually created a large enough congregation that they were able to cover the exposed wormstone and build the first temple to Pemija, Najibu, or the God Rock.   After, Sumiga was hailed as the first Mope Vubopa, so named by Pemija herself. Sumiga began the Vopa religion's first assemblies and cultural formation while also maintaining the original stone tablets, protecting them from the elements or other harm.

Significance

The Parasoza is the primary religious text that members of the Vopan religion follow. The initial cosmology and mythology of the astral realm is detailed and explored, along with calls to action to spread Pemija's word and create more bodies to house astral souls.

Rarity
There exists one original Parasoza and that is kept in Yalisi, where it is the job of the Mope Vubopa, or First Priest, of the Vopa religion to maintain it and use it during su moti, demonstrations of magical ability meant to showcase the power of Pemija and the creatures in the astral realm.   Many copies exist now. These copies are kept in homes for consultation by families, or they are taken by su vubopa on missionary trips to the main continent in order to read aloud.
Raw materials & Components
The original Parasoza was carved into stone tablets, preserving the history for as long as possible; however, when the need to disseminate the information became a more pressing concern, copies were made on paper made of leaves or on dried skins of animal hide. These copies used ink bound by magic so as to never smear or rub away with time.
