Kyitum Character in Mutania | World Anvil

Kyitum

prophet of the Id faith

Kyitum began to receive visions in the form of dreams that foretold of the eventual Dry Age, when the inland sea Lake Raro dried up almost entirely, devastating the communities who relied on the water for their livelihoods. After Lake Raro became to dry up, losing meters of depth over a matter of days, xe became recognized as a prophet of the future, and people demanded to know what they could do about this disaster. Xe had no answers to give them, and the area plunged into a dark age. Still recognized as a prophet, many people were frustrated with Kyitum's lack of public presence or ability to own up to or fix the challenges of the era.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Kyitum was a quiet child who grew up with an eggmate, Fam, much larger than xem and who had a tendency to take up a lot of space. Middling at xer literacy education and barely succeeding common physical exercises, xe wasn't expected to be the household name that xe ended up becoming.   As an adult, Kyitum became a merchant at Tyush, selling various fried foods, alongside Fam, who did most of the cooking. Kyitum's job was to bring customers to the stall, and xe did so gently rather than the loud barking done by others. This strategy often enticed customers who were overwhelmed with the rest of the market, and they could stay with Kyitum and Fam, happily munching on some fish in the shade.   On a night like any other, Kyitum began to toss and turn in bed, stretching out their muscles in strange positions, toes curling, tail twitching. Fam noticed these occurrences, but then Kyitum stopped moving entirely, so they did not wake xem up. Those who later went on to study xer teachings also began to worship Fam as well, because if if they had acted and woken Kyitum up, maybe the visions would not have happened.   Then Kyitum had xer visions.

Gender Identity

People who live near Lake Raro have four different genders that correspond roughly to male (shavve), female (nguuv), both simultaneously (khuuv), and neither (ga). Children grow up without being coerced into any specific gender, but some demonstrate an affinity for one as they grow up. Kyitum always gravitated away from gender and it was expected from an early age that xe would identify as ga. Ga Rarites can pick a specific sound that they prefer to use as pronouns, and this sound can be hard to translate, but xe/xem is a common ga pronoun.

Education

Kyitum's education began with traditional lessons in Raron fashion, focused on basic literacy and gross motor skills. Rarites have tails that they need to learn how to use in order to move around and manipulate objects, so early lessons to orient young people's bodies is important. While not excelling in their studies like Fam, xe passed most tests by the second time.

Failures & Embarrassments

Xe considered their inability to help people after the drying of Lake Raro to be a failure. Unbeknownst to many, xe would regularly engage in umgyutnee in order to induce further visions that would be able to help others. Instead, xe was greeted by the six animals that would then become the ushaadfay, or Id zodiac. They tried to comfort xem about the futility of one individual to stop what had been decided by the gods, and xe kept this vision a secret from all others, one that xe carried with xem to xer grave.
