Driny

Raron divine beast

plural drinyaa
Drinyaa are divine magical beasts. They live in the same realm of existence as the Raron elemental deities, but they are antagonistic forces. They possess many different forms and no two drinyaa are alike, but they commonly have fangs and claws, and some will have wings.   The believers of Id, the Raron dream cult, encounter drinyaa in their dreams. Drinyaa have power in dreams, virtually unlimited, so it is dangerous to dream with them for very long. A large part of the nginy's role is to protect dreamers from their malevolence.

Civilization and Culture

History

The drinyaa are believed to have arisen at the same time as the elemental deities, around the time the world itself was created. Some say that Oosh created the world, and the process of making the world did not go perfectly the first time. The corruptions and failures created the drinyaa. Others say that they existed before the elemental deities and that the elemental deities are just benevolent drinyaa, although this belief is seen by some, especially faithful followers of Aÿ, to be somewhat heretical.

Common Myths and Legends

Some people believe that Aÿ was attacked by a driny and was wounded so severely that they required all of the waters of Lake Raro to heal. The driny is often unnamed but described as having extremely long fangs, and that the wounds were puncture wounds. The driny, now that Aÿ has healed, waits until it can strike again, and the rivers of the world would flood with Aÿ's death, destroying the world.
