Red Viridium

Red viridium is an element recently discovered in the mines of Valatveria. It is named after the stone viridium because it is believed to function like a magical conduit. Unlike its namesake, however, it has been known to penetrate and grow into living things things it touches. Infection is as simple as coming into physical contact with it through open wounds.
Living beings that become infected by red viridium have many of their abilities augmented. Most find their strength and other physical abilities enhanced, while spell casters find that it aids them in channeling their magic. Xiao Dwe'Timer, a high elf sorcerer, found his sorcerous spells took on a different source of power.
A negative side effect is that those infected become connected to other beings who have been infected in a form of collective consciousness. For most with lesser infections, they experience mood changes and are a little more irritable. Those with higher stage of infection, however, find themselves less conscious to the point that they are no longer sentient.
There are historical records of a substance that gave similar results when one was infected by it. This was known as the Titan's Tear. Records indicate that this was as early as Pre-Tearing during the war between the Dragons and the Primordials of the first age (the Drachomachy).

Red Viridium Infection

To be infected with red viridium is to find yourself connected to the collective consciousness of all who have it. Infection is simple. Any sort of physical contact while having any sort of open wound allows the red viridium to reach forward and connect to the user through the wound.
