Howling the Darkness
The wolf scoured through many ways to prevent his own encroaching end. Those that knew him said that he grew desperate, clawing at any lead, conspiring with any being in order to find some kind of answers. Failing to gain any maeaningful headway, Valas put his arcane prowess to use and began traveling the other realms. According to the various legends and myths of the time, it is said that he consorted with a few of the Nihilan Lords themselves.
Save for Valas himself, none know what he discovered, but those around him know that by the time he made his way back to the Material Plane, it had left him forever changed. Those who knew him before him would claim that he was a strange, yet charismatic and optimistic elf. Even in regards to the family that left him excommunicated, he truly believed that when he found his answers, they would see his way. All of that idealism vanished when he returned, and in its place were bouts of madness. He raved about the Black, the White, the Green, the Clear (the rest of this page remains smudged)...
Those around him assumed he had lost his way. Three of his most trusted generals, the first pureblood vampires defected and made their way east. In his constant ramblings he muttered that "what [he] found at the golden city was naught but empty thrones".
After a monthlong period of hysteria, he disappeared without a trace. He returned for the briefest of periods a year later and took on a new form, that of a being transcendant of the bounds of life and death. It is at this time that many began to worship him as a god above all others. He took a few of his most devout into the realm of shadows and began to construct a city around a massive spire in the plane. It is said he never returned to the Material Plane.
