El-Han Pantheon

In the first recorded age of history, known as the Dracomachy, there was an act, known as the Creation of the Veil, done by the dragons to separate the world of Mundus from the Outer Planes. This act would unintentionally result in a schism, separating the realms between the concrete (the Material Plane) and a realm of abstraction and emotion known as the Feywild.   It is said, a distinct group of entities began to form within the Feywild, the closest thing to a life in the realm at the time. A small collection of them desired corporealness, and to experience life like the Dragons who created The Veil, while others preferred the freedom and infinite potential that the Feywild provided. This would lead to the exodus of the first Elves to the Material Plane, and the beginning of the Archfey.   According to Elvish religion and history, the first of the Elves are said to have desired knowledge and the ability to live full lives, and so taking a bite out of the fruit of the tree of Lug-Nímloth, they were able to develop corporeal forms. Resulting in the first generation of the El-Han; Halin, Brena-Ra, and Al-Avana.   Halin and Brena-Ra would eventually sire a son and daughter, who would become the twins Dalun-Mer and Dweti-Mer respectively. Halin and Al-Avana would also sire three children, Ronralun, Thal-Míor, and Valas.   These beings would eventually become known as the first elves (or El-Han), with each elf clan of the fledgeling nation of El-Runa claiming ancestry from one of these beings.

The Sahta

As the centuries went on, the Elves began to understand that in their bid for life, they were now fully realized mortal creatures. And the life of any mortal creature is set to inevitabley end. During this time the twins Thal-Míor and Valas disagreed and fought over how they should approach their encroaching demise.   Presenting their cases to the rest of the Elves, Thal-Míor suggested establishing a cycle, passing down what they know through future generations and living on in the lives of their descendants, through a practice that would eventually become known as Trance. Valas, on the other hand, suggested breaking the cycle, working on and eventually becoming immortal. Seeing the dangers of what could happen if Valas's plan ever came into fruition, Halin, the leader of the El-Han, decided to go with Thal-Míor's plan. This would cause Valas and a group of his followers/descendants to split from the rest of the Elves in an event known as Sahta. Valas's descendants would then go on to form the Valas Empire, and become the dark elves scattered across the world.   In spite of the Elvish practice of Trance giving them a stronger connection to all of their ancestors, not every elf has access to the lives and memories of the El-Han. There are certain descendants, however, that are able to see/experience the lives of these progenitors. These specific Elves become known as "Óma" and are said to be the reincarnation of the original El-Han. There are certain Óma who have achieved even higher levels of discipline and are able to communicate directly with the spirits of those who came before, and experience their lives in a way that allows them to be privy to the secrets of the El-Han itself. The ability to achieve this higher state of harmony with one's ancestors is known as Manwa.

Pantheon Overview:

Óma:

An Óma is said to be the current reincarnation of their El-Han ancestor. They are born at the death of the previous reincarnation. Óma are revered in El-Runa society as if they are the gods themselves. Whenever an Óma is revealed, they are guaranteed a seat on the Runen Council when they come of age at around 100 years old. Many are said to have inherited traits from their ancestor, but that has not always been the case. Valas is not capable of having an Óma. Those who have been able achieve the truist state of harmony with all of their ancestors, become known as Manwa.
A consistent thread among all the El-Han is the ability to deliver prophecies concerning the future. These prophecies are often vague and not reliable.

Halin (The All-father)

Halin is the leader of the El-Han Pantheon. He is god of knowledge, order, and artisans. He is said to be the creator of the arcane tradition of Bladesinging. It is also believed he is the god of time. Contrary to many myths about him, he was known to have been a very exuberant and lively being, and wasn't above throwing pranks on others. It is said that he spent a century among the Gold Dragons of old and learned much from them. Because of this, the Óma of Halin who have achieved Manwa are said to have ridden golden dragons out into battle. But this has not happened in centuries.

Symbol: Ki-Rin Typical Traits of Óma: Compassionate, Fierce, Protective

Al-Avana (The Pale Mistress)

Goddess of The First Moon and the deep magic, said to be the one who taught the elves the importance of living in communion with nature, and Druidcraft as well. She is also known as the Pale Queen. Dalun-Mer (The One-Eyed Beast)

He is also the patron God of the Wood elves, and Tribes in the Land of Whispers. He is the son of Brena-Ra, and lover of Ronralun. In the early days, it is said that Brena-Ra was the only one able to temper the anger of Dalun-Mer, so when dispensing justice it was common to invoke both their names to receive a fair verdict. Dalun-Mer was also said to have lost an eye against Valas, so it is not uncommon for followers of his to hold strong enmity for the former Empire. Symbol: A One-Eyed Beast Typical Traits of Óma: Desires justice/vengeance for others or self, seeks to correct wrong doing. For some reason every recorded descendant has also lost in eye during their lifetime.

He is the most widely worshipped of the El-Han for elves outside of El-Runa, with many cultures believing in him as a god of death. As such, whenever a moth is seen after the death of a loved one, it is considered a good omen, because it means they are in Thal-Míor's embrace. He is also said to be the god of memories as well, with many elves invoking his name prior to entering their Trance. He is the brother of Valas. This act secured that Satyr's spot within the El-Han for all of time, much to the scorn of the rest of the El-Han. In fact, it was Dalun-Mer who gave him his nickname. Even though ther is an Óma for Morbos-Mons, they are not granted a rank on the Runen Council.
Typical Traits of Óma: Loves to party, enjoy life and all its revelries, typically Satyr's

Valas (The Betrayer)

The ousted god, and brother of Thal-Mior. He is said to have defected from the El-han after a fierce battle with the rest of the Pantheon. His descendants that stayed in El-Runa are barred from the Runen Council and work as an order of assassins. He is said to have become a Nihilan Lord of Undeath. There has never been an Óma of Valas. Symbol: a Five Eyed Wolf

Historical Basis

While the truth of much of early Elvish lore is known only to the most prolific of Óma, much of Elvish kind has come to accept most of it as truth.

Cultural Reception

In truth, only the Elves of El-Runa worship this pantheon in its entirety. The Eladrin of the feywild hold no reverence to the gods, preferring the Archfey of whatever respective court that they deal with regularly. Likewise the Eastern Elves pay homage to the Nihilan Lords (Preferring the Revel King, Night Queen, and Dawnseer) for similar reasons, but will still pay their respects to Thal-Mior, viewing him as their patron deity. The Dark Elves of Valas don't worship any being classified as divine, with many of them abandoning worship of Valas himself in favor of their own practices regarding the dead.   These Elves are known as the El-Apos to those in El-Runa and it is believed that they will not be joining them in the cycles of rebirth. The exception to this being the tribes of Elves in the Land of Whispers who still worship Dalun-Mer, Ronralun, and Thal-Míor.   In the El-Runa calendar, the Sahta is actually year 0, making the current year (4,278 Va-Sahta).
