Mechanical:
These are the questions about your character’s mechanics and how they will be played in the game, the stuff that is needed for your character sheet.
Character Name - Some races typically have first and last names, some only one name, but you can do whatever you want for this. Here is a website that can randomly generate names for you for just about any race you may want. https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/
Character Race - Your character's race.
Character Class(es) - Your character's class(es). Its always a good idea to have an idea of what you would like to do with your character, maybe you plan to multi-class later, or to stick with just one class. If you plan to multi-class, please put all classes here, if you don't just put the one class. (It's ok if you decide to multi-class later even if you put one class here)
Subclass(es) - Your character's subclass(es). Some classes pick their subclass before others, but I always reccomend knowing what subclass(es) you would like to pick during character creation even if you dont get yours til later.
Feat - Pick one origin feat to start with. Remember that you may choose a new feat (origin or general) everytime you reach a level where you get an ability score improvement.
Background - This is the mechanical background not your backstory, try to pick one that fits decently well with your character's story, but its not a necceisty.
Alignment - I do not use alignment, this will not matter at all.
Equipment - Here is where you can put what equipment you will start with, as well as how you imagine your character being geared out. Remember when first creating your character you can only select weapons with a cost of Mundane (M) or Common (C). But if you have an idea of your character using specific kinds of weapons or types of gear, please let me know here so I can best customize the rewards you get for your own fantasy. (this could also mean kinds of spells for wizards since they learn most their spells through scrolls)
Character:
Questions on what your character is like, what they look like, their personality, their relationships, etc. These questions once answered will give great detail on what kind of person your character is, and will help with understanding what this character would do in any given situation, and help fill out their backstory. Dont feel pressured to give detailed answers for any of these. It's also ok to not know, try to answer most of them but if there are a few that you just can't think of anything for or think dont fit your character to well you can it leave empty, some can also be discovered during the game as well.
Physical Description - Go ahead and give a basic rundown on what people will see when they look at your character (any notable scars, eye color, hair color, hairstyle, skin color, weight, type of build, etc.) Height, age and perceived age should also be listed here as well.
Other Names - Do you have any nicknames, street names, titles, nom de plume?
Secondary characteristics - accent, tone of voice, mannerisms, ticks etc
Emotional characteristics - are they prone to getting angry/laid back/investigative/despondent etc, personal prejudices?
Interactions - How do their emotional characteristics affect how they interact with people/groups?
Defining events - What were the defining moments/events from their history?
Biggest fear - What do they most fear?
Secrets - Do they have any secrets? Who have they told, if anyone?
Heritage - Where are they from? Do they have relevant cultural associations/quirks? How patriotic & nationalistic are they?
Childhood - What was their childhood like?
Family - Status of immediate family (including any children) and friends - alive/dead/missing
Jobs or Hobbies - What's their profession and hobbies?
Religion - Do they have a religious affiliation, and if so what is it and how strong?
Beliefs - What are their major personal beliefs/ideologies?
What do they want - What are they looking to get out of the adventure?
Strengths - What are your character's most strengths? This is NOT referring to physical abilities, think things like (Brave, Determined, Strong Willed, Patient, etc.)
Flaws - What are your character's most obvious flaws? This is NOT referring to physical abilities, think things like (Arrogant, Impulsive, Weak Willed, Cowardly, etc.)
Education - How educated is your character?
See themself - Does your character see themself as a hero or villain, or somewhere inbetween?
Origin of skills/abilities - Where/why did you gain your powers/abilities?
Additional notes - Any additional notes you would like to add? This would be where you can put class specific stuff, like who your warlock patron is, where your sorcerous origin comes from, which god(s) your cleric worships, etc.
Backstory:
Now it’s time to write out a story for your character, the questions above can be incorporated however you see fit or left out since they were already answered. This should be mostly used as a way to tie everything together, give more details, and explain why your character is going on this adventure. It does not need to be long or brief. Write however much you feel is needed to get across your story.
