Flompok

Lore

Founded on the edge of a thick section of the Grande Forest, Flompok was a thriving village in its heyday. The village had been founded by idealistic pioneers who felt the larger cities were demanding too much from the forest. Its denizens were respectful to the surrounding environment, only taking what they needed and never wasting what the forest provided.   With such an utopian environment, the mostly Human population has found itself as a safe refuge for the other more magical races of the Grande Forest. Flompok trades with several small Gnomrig villages, and has found itself home to a sizeable population of them and Woodland Sylvari.   Over the last few years, the town has fallen on hard times. The once peaceful and predictable environment has grown increasingly hostile, literally. The forest has grown angry at the villagers, trees sprout out in people’s houses over night. The wind will knock down full grown oaks to block travel, only for another tree to sprout out in its place the next day. Moss has come alive to cover almost everything it touches, making brand new buildings appear as if they’ve been abandoned for centuries.   Despite their best efforts, the village has not been able to combat the forces of nature. At night, windows are boarded up and doors are barricaded as traveling at night proves increasingly dangerous. Those that dare venture out into the woods in the twilight hours are never seen again. Flompok’s Jarl has sent for help in the larger Kingdoms. So far the call for aid has gone unanswered.   One unique aspect of Flompok is the manner in which its leader is selected. Since its inception, the town has practiced a loose kind of democracy, having a semi-formal vote for a new Jarl. Though there is no such concept as terms or limits, any town member may nominate themself or someone else to be a Jarl candidate. They campaign until the majority of the population supports them, or they give up their candidacy. Any citizen that can speak common may vote orally in the election.

Notable People

Ganamede Glynous-   Race: Asrai   Age: 312   Sex: M   Alignment: TN   Ganamede has been around since the town’s founding. He owns the largest house within the town and controls much of the towns wealth. One of the few Asrai seen in a Human settlement, his family has remained an oddity, but have been welcomed among the populous. Though many still approach them with distrust. Despite the fact their family seems to be completely native to the town’s culture.   Years ago the Glynous family was struck with tragedy. The Glynous's youngest child was a still born, and never even given a chance at life. This drove Ganamede's wife mad with grief. For months she wailed throughout the halls of their home, becoming a ghost of her former self. Eventually she snapped, bringing her youngest two children, Rosalyn and Thornal, who were 10 and 7 respectfully, into the attic and murdered them in a fit of rage. By the time Ganamede discovered what had happened, his wife had already hung herself from the rafters. Since this tragedy, Ganamede has become more reclusive rarely seen outside of his mansion. He has been notably absent since the town fell apart. Though his remaining two daughters, Seldanna and Sakaala have been nursing him back into a better state of being.   However, Ganamede's outward appearance hides a dark secret. Over the last few years he has used his wealth and power to amass great magical resources. He is attempting to bring back his wife through the power of necromancy, and has even struck a deal with a dark lord of magic. Though this has mostly been rumor spread by the villages children.   Known Allegiances   -Glynous Family Patriarch   Sakaala Glynous-   Race: Asrai   Age: 193   Sex: F   Alignment: NE   Greedy and selfish, Sakaala is patiently awaiting the inheritance she is owed by birth. Her father is old even by Asrai standards, and Sakaala has been eagerly awaiting his passing for years. She’s intent on influencing the town for her own selfish desires and has placed a heavy amount of money into pushing her own candidacy for the seat of Jarl. Even attacking the sitting Jarl for allowing the forest to put the town into such disarray.   Though she is greedy, she has a soft spot for her sister, Seldanna, as she is the last remaining of her siblings. Sakaala's actions on the night of their Mother's death actually saved Seldanna from the same fate, as the two were out in the forest playing. Since then, the two have slowly drifted apart becoming unrecognizable. The two still come together at the behest of their father, even though some have rumored Sakaala has had her father murdered for his money. She would never stoop to that level of greed.     Known Allegiances:   -Eldest daughter of Glynous Family   -Rival of Jarl Samuel Tulach   Seldanna Glynous- Race: Asrai   Age: 53   Sex: F   Alignment: CG   Seldanna is a free spirit and friendly person. His subjects have become frightened of the dangers that themselves in. The town holds on by a thread as many have begun to question Samuel’s leadership. Though he has tried his best to keep the peace, only the end of these dark times can truly save his village.   ---Following the actions of the party on the 10th of Evening Star. Samuel died in the Glynous estate. He was sacrificed to bring back the lady of the house.   Known Allegiances:   -Rival of Sakaala Glynous   -Husband of Alaine Tulach   Alaine Tulach-   Race: Sylvari   Age: 83   Sex: F   Alignment: CG   Alaine is a practicing druid of low level. The shop itself was carved within a live tree, and sits on the edge of town, atop its door is the name Natural Things Amazingly it is one of the few buildings unaffected by the going ons of the Forest, which has drawn the suspicion of the townsfolk   Known Allegiances:   -Wife of Jarl Samuel Tulach   Seebo “Flapper” Globilk- Race: Gnomrig   Age: 136   Sex: M   Alignment: LE   Seebo, or “Flapper,” as he insist others call him, is the owner of the only inn of Flompok, the Hungry Badger. His careful and friendly demeanor hides a cruel and calculating undertone. While none in the town would describe him as evil, he has earned a reputation of putting coin before people, garnishing his workers wages for minor mistakes. It seems he has also managed to find a way to make money off the towns misery, having found a way to harvest and send off the town’s peculiar plant growth for resources. Though the exact nature of his business is unknown, it is rumored that he has a factory deep within the forest that is refining the wood into a strong type of armor and building material that he then sells to the larger cities. And since the Jarl has used the towns coin to pay anyone willing to remove the wood, heod, Flapper is being paid to mine his own material.   ---Following the actions of Snarl's Angels on the 10th of Evening Star. Seebo died in the Glynous estate.   Known Allegiances:   -Business partner of Seldanna Glynous   Lorrex Greenbeard- Race: Dwarf   Age:   Sex:M   Alignment:CN   Lorrex is the cause of the town's woes, though none know of his true existence. He is only known about through rumor, and even then the rumor of these rumors is rumored to have come from the animals of the forest themselves. Whatever the truth to these rumors, one thing is clear. Something with powerful magic is causing Flompok's destruction.   Lorrex is an outsider to the town's true conflict, Sakaala vs the Jarl. He was provoked into attacking the town due to Flapper's factory, the existence of which is unknown to anyone. The factory is located up stream of the river, and has been causing the normally potable water to make people sick. Everyone has assumed this sickly water is simply another symptom of the Grande Forest's rage.   ---Following the events of 10 Evening Star 22, Lorrex Greenbeard has ended his campaign against Flompok. He is now helping the new Snarl and citizens rebuild the city.   Snarl Bear   Race: Awakened Blackbear   Sex: M   Alignment: NG   Bear is an awakened Blackbear who has spent all of his life within the forest around Flompok. He was awakened as a cub by Lorrex Greenbeard who has kept him as a trusted ally and friend.   ---Following the Snarl's Angels adventures on 10 Evening Star 22, Bear was elected Jarl of Flompok. His first decleration was to officially change the name of the office to Snarl, in honor of Gali Whitebane who thought that's how it was pronounced.
