The mark of the Godess

Some individuals may have strange birthmarks on their skin that grant them magical power from simple magic tricks to powerful innate spells, the Church of the White Flame believes these marks to be either a blessing from their Goddess, if they are on a member of the blessed races, or a mark of a demon of the abyss if they are on a member of a non-blessed race. This belief is so strong that no emperor without such a mark has ever been elected, the first emperor, Gustavus Adolphus, is known as the lion from the north or the white lion because his mark gave him the ability to transform into a massive white lion, and the name of Lion has been synonymous with Emperor ever since.
