Samuel's constructs

Although constructs are not new in the Free Cities of the Empire, the first being built right before the 18 years of strife more than 2000 years ago, my constructs are unique, for they possess pieces of my soul and are as conscious and capable of free will as any other race. Their physical appearance is as varied as their purposes but generally, chassis are divided into 5 categories:
  • T: Titanic these massive chassis are taller than 6m and some can reach a height of 15m their weight varies from 1 metric ton to over 10 metric tons. Models featuring these chassis are made for construction, heavy industry, and sometimes war.
  • L: Large from 2,5 m to 6m tall they weigh between 200 and 1000 kilos. Models featuring these chassis are made for industry, heavy transport, and war.
  • M: Medium from 1.70 to 2.5 m tall weighing between 100 to 200 kilos. Models of this size are the most adaptable and often are built for multi-role operations.
  • l: Light from 1 to 1.70 m tall weighing between 40 to 100 kilos. Models of this size are built for scouting, trading, and exploring and there are also a few models built for assassination.
  • t: Tiny less than 1m tall, weighing less than 40 kilos, could be as small as a bug. Models of this size are built mostly for spying and recon.
All of Sams's constructs are made of metal alloys but the alloy can vary widely depending on their purpose, some have their gear or even core shoving to reduce weight and improve cooling while others are covered in thick metal armor, their core is almost always field by liquid amber although some rare models feature crystalline amber cores, though this technology is illegal in all the Empire including the Free Cities. Some rare diplomatic or infiltrator models have synthetic skin, hairs, and body parts and can appear as a member of any race, the skin does not age and the hairs do not grow so infiltrations lasting long periods may raise suspicion. Most of the constructs are too heavy to float and so cannot swim with the exception of models built exactly with swimming in mind. Some models can fly, and some are adept at climbing or digging, but any form of special movement comes with a higher consumption of fuel. The constructs do not need to breathe, they have no need for food or drinks, they do not age, and are immune to poisons and diseases. They also do not need to sleep but can enter an energy-saving mode useful to save fuel, in this state they may also access The Dream. They do not feel exhausted and can push their mechanical body over their limits for a short time, roughly 10m every day, in this state they consume enough liquid amber to power them for 1 day but their physical capacities are greatly enhanced. Liquid amber consumption varies model by model but most models consume it at a rate depending on their size, models t consume 1 gold worth of liquid amber per day, models l consume 3 gold worth of liquid amber per day, models M consume 5 gold worth of liquid amber per day, models L consume 10 gold worth of liquid amber per day, and models T consume 10-100 gold worth of liquid amber per day. They also have varying sizes of tanks to hold their liquid amber, but generally, each model can work for a full 30 days on a full tank. Sam's construct cannot reproduce, having no knowledge of how to build a soul core or how to put a soul into it, but this does not seem to be a major problem for their survival, they have the knowledge to repair any bodypart that is not the core and the soulcore is made of an alloy stronger than adamantium so is almost indestructible, some models, mostly assassin types do have a self destruct function that detonates the core creating a massive explosion capable of levelling a large building. Being constructs means that they are not healed by traditional methods such as healing magic or healing potions, furthermore, they do not automatically self-repair small injuries like organics do, but they can be repaired by a knowledgeable mechanic or by using the mending cantrip.

The Dream

The Dream is the name used by Sam's construct to describe their shared memories of the time when they were all linked under Samuel's consciousness, The Dream is foggy and memories are difficult to recall, the memories of their body are easier to remember but the ones of other bodies are very difficult to recall, some construct say they can also remember the time before Sam transferred his consciousness into his first construct but these memories appear to be exceedingly rare.

Religion

Samuel's constructs do not believe, they know, they know the dream is real and that their creator has ascended to godhood, they know why they were built and what was their purpose, what they do not know is why, why Samuel decided to free them, to make them all individuals with free will and a soul. There are two major schools of taught between Sam's constructs, those who believe they have to continue their original purpose for which they were built, and those who believe that their new freedom is to be explored, that they need to find a new purpose that brings them happiness.

History

Tldr version

The powerful mage Samuel Nix (me, I am writing all of these articles) constructed hundreds of thousands of constructs to scour Mundus in a quest to gather knowledge, he can control all these constructs simultaneously sharing his consciousness between all the bodies. He founded a shipping corporation (54M's Shipping) that uses portals to transfer non-living things instantly between two stable locations, with the money from the shipping corporation he founded another corporation (54M's Industries) that produces magical items to sell through the many locations owned by the shipping corporation. With all this money and knowledge, he discovered how to become a god and then he does it, but its consciousness can't be shared between planes so the constructs become independent people.

Long full story

It all started when I, after the war with the demons, finally completed my first functioning soul core, finally ready to achieve my immortality I transferred my soul into my latest body design, the model 54M (the 54th iteration on the medium chassis), I was so eager that I forgot to put a timer on the amber injector and soo the body was trapped motionless with no power for more than 2000 years, thankfully I was not conscious during that time and so when a small earthquake activated the amber injector in the year 2021 AI I thought only moments had passed, this long "coma" had damaged my memories and so I could not recall my name or what I wanted to do, I only knew I had a deep thirst for knowledge in particular of the arcane kind and so after deciding that the model name on my body, 54M, was my name I abandoned my now decrepit laboratory and asked for direction for a place with magical knowledge, I was directed to the Serene magical academy, a place I knew well but did not remember, and so I started my travels. Arriving at the city of Sereene I met the witch hunter Kaulder in a tavern and, we immediately became friends, his deep knowledge in fighting those adept in the magical art was useful to me and he saw in my strong steel body a capable fighting companion. After knowing that Kaulder was on the hunt for a powerful witch that had decimated imperial armies during the recent mages' rebellion I agreed to help him track her down, in hopes of observing her magical arts in person. After various shenanigans including but not limited to jumping off the highest tower of Serene, we gathered information that suggested she was hiding on a small uninhabited island near the city, so we stole a boat, Kalder assured me he knew how to sail and then we crashed on the coast of the small Island were the witch was hiding. We found the witch deep in an ancient dungeon on the island, the fight was epic but in the end, we won. Now stranded on the island with the decapitated head of a witch I repaired the boat and we sailed to the Free City of Hadùr, not wanting to return to Serene in fear they would recognize the stolen boat. Arrived at port I took the helm from Kaulder and we safely landed at Hadùr, Kaulder went to the local Inquisitor to claim the price on the witch's head. Seeing that we made a good team Kaulder and I went on many adventures across all of Mundus, but the most important points are that I upgraded the ship with a massive balloon and made it fly, Kaulder got tricked into marrying a princess from a floating kingdom in the clouds, and that we crashlanded on the southern part of the continent of Axal, since apparently, the fog monsters that surround the continent are giant Quetzalcoatl that can fly, honest mistake, really. On Axal after a few skirmishes with the local population of lizardmen, we met the ruler or should I say goddess of the island, well I say "met", in the beginning, it was more of a "kidnapping" or is it "godnapping", anyway, semantics aside, we managed to convince the goddess that we were friendly, by murdering a large group of lizardmen that rebelled against her, and after the hostility had been resolved we resided in her kingdom for 1-year while I thought of a way to not be sunk by the Quetzalcoatl, in this time I used the local lizardmen population for a side project, anyway after I gave up on the idea of an underwater vessel, fearing possible underwater Quetzalcoatl, I managed with the help of local technology to open a portal to the Archmage quarters in the magical academy of Serene because I remember the runic circle in the room from when I jumped of the tower that one time. At this moment me and Kaulder decided to split he had a floating cloud kingdom to run and I had my side project, so we said our goodbyes and I went back to work. I built other models of constructs and connected them to mine by using electrum antennas to strengthen the soul signal, splitting my soul into this different body, I was now capable of moving and controlling multiple bodies at a time, and after a lot of training I built more, helped my side-project, you see back in Axal I set up an assembly line of newer lighter models the 34l, and so know I had hundreds of body ready to build new assembly line and so on, the only problem I needed money for the materials. So I taught about my experiences and realized I had the knowledge to build permanent portals between stable locations, I needed very expensive materials to permit travel of living things but objects, but that was easy and so 54M's Shipping was born, sending my bodies to different cities and buying the cheapest smallest houses or shops I could find I set up a central warehouse in Hadùr and shipping goods from there, this made me very rich, to the point I moved the assembly line to Hadùr and built new ones, Lizardmen need to eat, I wanted to cut costs. I also started producing weapons and armor as well as magical items of various kinds, to sell under the new 54M's Industries. Now the richest construct on Mundus I returned to my first objective gathering knowledge, it was in this period that I discovered too important things I regained my memories and how to become a God. I think it's important to reflect on one's error so I will briefly talk about the Rose debacle, Kaulder was hunting a Vampire by the name of Rose, when he came into my shop in the Glittering Islands to buy a weapon to kill said vampire I suggested a railgun capable of shooting silver tipped projectile but he refused, informing me that this particular vampire was immune to the anti regenerative properties of silver, now I should have done nothing and continue with my God project but, this specimen intrigued me and so I kidnapped her and used her for experiments, one of which consisted in projecting their soul into another construct body on a special frequency very different from the one that I use, that was my biggest mistake. Rose quickly took control of almost all of my constructs before I could change the soul projection protocol and make it more secure, now stuck in a spy model 22t, a model with the appearance of a small bird, I had to find a solution to this hostile takeover, and so I did. Knowing that the soul link could not be maintained from different planes of existence I chose the Feywilds, for the only reason that it was, and still is, the easiest one to reach from the material plane, I quickly hired mercenaries from all corners of Mundus, dwarves, humans, halfling, gnomes and any kinds of elves joined me on the promised of monetary recompense, Kaulder was also there but I had to pay him double and honestly I don't think he was worth it, anyway I teleported all the mercenaries and infected constructs in the Feywilds, we landed by chance in summer, I also took the Final Defender, nobody had used it after my father built it and it was sitting in front of Lowengrube for more than 2000 years gathering dust, surprisingly it was still functional but the crystal amber core had few energy left. The battle was massive and disorganized, I was trying to shout orders from the sky in my small bird body but I think I should have upgraded that model's voxophone because nobody could hear me clearly, anyway after the battle was won I had all but one of the infected core destroyed, knowing that if I destroyed the last one Rose's soul would go to an afterlife and I had a better plan, I sent that core to Carceri so that this problem would never happen again, ever. After paying the mercenaries some of them liked the Feywilds and chose to settle there, this was problematic, since Titania, the Summer Queen, did not like the idea, nor the fact that we used her kingdom as a battlefield, I convinced her to let the mercenary stay by promising her an army of 200 constructs that were immune to the Fomorian's curse. Rose being dealt with I took some time to repair the damages she had done, and then I resumed my ascension to godhood, in the year 2040AI on the day of 17 of the ninth month I managed to become a God, I decided that I did not want to let all my hard work on Mundus to go to waste and so I removed the electrum antennas from the constructs and removed the knowledge of how to make one from their memories, then I took a large part of my soul and shattered it into hundreds of thousands of pieces and gifted one to each construct so that they could live as people on Mundus. That decision might have been influenced by the fact that good gain greater powers if they are worshipped and I did need worshipers, but it was mainly because I loved them and wanted them to be free, mostly.

Naming Traditions

Unisex names

Samuel's constructs that decide to keep pursuing their original purpose usually use their model name and their serial number to identify themselves. Those who decide to use their freedom to pursue new purposes can use any name usually they chose a name from the local culture.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

All of sam's constructs speak Gnomish and Imperial, some may also speak other languages, especially diplomatic or merchant models. They are also, generally, quick to learn new languages.

Average technological level

54M's Industry is probably the most technologically advanced group on Mundus, maybe even in the Mihir system, capable of creating almost any kind of magical item given enough resources and time, for weapons they favor magnetically powered guns field by liquid amber, railguns for heavy precise shots and coilguns for rapid fire of small caliber ammunitions. Armors are either traditional designs with lighter stronger materials such as mithril-adamantium alloys or magical shields of both the shaped and omnidirectional variety. For travelling and transportation they use teleportation for inorganic material and airships for anything else, they even know how to use crystalline amber a knowledge that was taught lost.

Foods & Cuisine

Sam's constructs have no need for food and so possess no culinary culture, but some diplomatic models have synthetic stomachs capable of digesting almost any food, even some metals, these stomachs are filled with gelatinous cube gelatine and so do not need to be emptied.
