Magic amber is fossilized tree resin from the Yggdrasil also called the Tree of life, the magical tree is a single organism with roots stretching deep underground reaching the underdark and connecting all trees of this species.
Magic amber holds great quantities of magical energy but needs to be refined to be of use.
Magic amber is similar in looks to mundane amber, it is almost inert in its natural state making it safe and useless.
Liquid amber
Liquid amber is the common name given to the most common way to refine magic amber, it is liquefied by alchemical means and it is used as magical fuel for constructs and magical equipment, produced mostly in the Free Cities especially hadùr it can be found in most major settlements and is a valuable commodity. Liquid amber is a viscous amber-colored liquid, it is very stable, and only high amounts of concentrated magical energy can cause involuntary reactions.
Consumption of liquid amber by living beings can augment or create arcane magical capabilities, though it severely impacts both the body and mind of the individual making them weak frail, and mad, it is also highly addictive, signs of liquid amber consumption can be seen in orange colored enlarged veins.
Crystalline amber
Another form of refined magic amber, it can be either artificially produced or found naturally in deep deposits where high pressure compresses natural amber. Crystalline amber is blue and semi-transparent glowing with a pale blue light, it is extremely unstable and even minor magical disturbances can set off an almost instant chain reaction that detonates all magical energy stored in the crystal creating large powerful magical explosions.
Crystalline amber weapons were originally built before the eighteen years of strife, but after the demon wars unification between the free cities and The Empire of the White Flame came with an accord of non-crystalline amber proliferation making any new magical engine powered by crystalline amber illegal, though old ones can still be used, they are now surpassed by their modern liquid amber counterparts.
Crystalline amber can be consumed by living beings but it's highly discouraged, having the same effects as liquid amber they are however amplified, other than the madness and weakness of the body, crystalline amber is also highly unstable and individuals consuming it may explode seemingly at random, signs of crystalline amber compsuption include blue colored veins.
