Dragonborn

Originally created by the Ishari dragons as footsoldiers to fight the war with the giants and then the draconic civil war, dragonborn look very much like dragons standing erect in humanoid form, though they lack wings or a tail. The first dragonborn had scales of vibrant hues matching the colors of their dragon kin, but generations of interbreeding have created a more uniform appearance. Their small, fine scales are usually brass or bronze in color, sometimes ranging to scarlet, rust, gold, or copper-green. They are tall and strongly built, often standing close to 2m tall and weighing 150 kilos or more. Their hands and feet are strong, talonlike claws with three fingers and a thumb on each hand. The blood of a particular type of dragon runs very strong through some dragonborn clans. These dragonborn often boast scales that more closely match those of their dragon ancestor—bright red, green, blue, or white, lustrous black, or gleaming metallic gold, silver, brass, copper, or bronze. Dragonborn now resent their dragon creators' feeling used and ultimately betrayed by their masters who sook only to save themselves with the collapse of their empire. Most Dragonborn live in clans on the meteorite islands west of Ishar but some travel over all of Mundus either alone or in small groups. Dragonborn are exceptionally adept in the magical arts and their way of life reflects this, dragonborn clan cities may be built with the expectation that magic should be used to traverse them, and things such as magical flight or telekinesis are easy for dragonborn to accomplish. Dragonborn life expectancy varies widely, the first dragonborn originally created by the dragons do not appear to age, and each newer generation lives shorter lives than the previous, most modern dragonborn can live to about 150-200 years but there are still living dragonborn of older generations that are much older, to anyone knowledge no first generation dragonborn is still alive. Dragonborn have very low fertility, due to the matter and reason of their creation, a dragonborn female usually produces just one egg for their entire life and even that is not guaranteed, twins born from the same egg rarely survive and when they doo they are seen as a miracle. For this reason, the dragonborn population is in decline, a problem that is a top priority amongst dragonborn scholars.

Dragonborn clans

To any dragonborn living in a clan, the clan is more important than life itself. Dragonborn owe their devotion and respect to their clan above all else, even the gods. Each dragonborn’s conduct reflects on the honor of his or her clan, and bringing dishonor to the clan can result in expulsion and exile. Each dragonborn knows his or her station and duties within the clan, and honor demands maintaining the bounds of that position. A continual drive for self-improvement reflects the self-sufficiency of the race as a whole. Dragonborn value skill and excellence in all endeavors. They hate to fail, and they push themselves to extreme efforts before they give up on something. A dragonborn holds mastery of a particular skill as a lifetime goal. Members of other races who share the same commitment find it easy to earn the respect of a dragonborn. Though all dragonborn strive to be self-sufficient, they recognize that help is sometimes needed in difficult situations. But the best source for such help is the clan, and when a clan needs help, it turns to another dragonborn clan before seeking aid from other races—or even from the gods. Dragonborn clans are small city-states built in the mountainous regions of the meteorite islands their architecture is built using magical runes and enchantments so unnatural and impossible shapes are often used, many buildings in their city are floating and capable of moving, and in places such as markets there are spots dedicated for building parking, in case someone wished to buy more than could be carried. The meteorite archipelago is shrouded in illusion magic, to keep the Dragonborn safe from the outside world, and none from outside is permitted in, even other dragonborn.

Dragonborn Society

Dragonborn value first clan and then kin, their society is based on the principles of communal lives, while all dragonborn should strive for self-sufficiency first to not burden the clan and mastery later to help their clan those that can't are not shunned, instead the weaker members of their society are helped and nurtured some may say condescendingly, nevertheless life in the clans is good for every member, resources are abundant and the living standard is high compared to the rest of Mundus. In the rare occasion where a crime is committed by a member of the clan, a jury is formed from 60 random clan members who after 3 days of deliberation will unanimously decide the punishment, for lesser crimes usually community services are imposed on the criminal, while for major crimes exile is the only option. Due to their low population dragonborn value each dragonborn life very highly, each death is a tragedy not only for the clan but for the race itself, and murder even accidentally is considered the highest crime a dragonborn can do. Dragonborn children from ages 2-3 to 14 are educated by communal facilities for 8 days the remaining 2 in the Decimana they spend with their family, dragonborn hatched in the same two years are considered from the same clutch and usually share a strong bond similar to siblings in other races.

Dragonborn military

Dragonborn clans do not have any form of proper military, they have guards to protect the city from criminals and the many dangerous creatures of the archipelago such as dragonell, basilisk, drakes, dracosnakes, and crocodrakes, the isolation of the archipelago means that no mammal lives on the island.
