Morrgys

The Northern Sentinel

Honestly, I expected it to smell worse after all the goblins were holed up here. Maybe it's just that the smell of blood drowns everything else out... Wait, there's a tripwi-
- Belen Vendus, clean-up crew member assigned to Morrgys after the Lapis Wolves reclaimed the city. Currently on medical leave.

Demographics

Highly variable.

Government

Unlike most imperial cities, Morrgys is not currently under the jurisdiction of a royal governor. Instead, as Morrgys is subject to inordinately frequent attacks from the mountains and the Underdark, Morrgys is under the command of Major Kudoh of the Lapis Wolves, who has unilateral authority over the city.

Defences

Morrgys is one of few cities with citizen inhabitants which was built specifically for defense. The city is situated at the mouth of a glacial valley, down which runs the Mirror Run from the Sky Mirror. The valley is interrupted at multiple points by walls which span the gap between the mountains. The space between these walls is occupied by towers and fortresses to defend the mills which use the rivers.   Morrgys is also home to an exceptionally large and disciplined garrison of Osvenya military, with Lapis Wolf leadership. Additionally, as the city was recently reclaimed from goblinkin, the leader of whom was subsequently honored and installed as chapter master of the Amethyst Flames for his devious and effective defenses, the Amethyst Flames are very involved in devising and installing new defenses for the city.

Industry & Trade

Morrgys is home to numerous impressive liquor stills, the product of which it trades to much of the Empire. However, individual brewers must contract traveling merchants to do so, as there is little call and great risk involved in traveling to Morrgys.   Additionally, certain enterprising individuals have made significant profits selling the waters of the Mirror Run, which are reported to be the purest in the world and are of great value to some.

Infrastructure

Morrgys is home to a slew of watermills harnessing the flow of the Mirror Run, as well as windmills perched on its high walls. Both are necessary for its impressive liquor stills.

Guilds and Factions

There is little room or time for individual factions to grow in Morrgys, given the frequency of attacks. However, the brewer families are powerful economic forces and certain mercenary groups have a large presence in the city.   The Abyssal Inquisition: A non-governmental organization of warriors and magisters who exist throughout the Empire, but whose primary guild hall exists in High Ost. They are devoted zealously to rooting out and purging demonic corruption. They also function as mercenaries and sellswords to the common man and, in certain circumstances, nobles, especially when fiendish problems are suspected.   Resolute Ice Brewery: One of the most powerful brewer families in Morrgys, Resolute Ice is prized as a hard liquor of superior clarity and strength throughout the Empire and beyond. The also have strong holdings in mead, but that field is currently dominated in Morrgys by Poppy Hive Brewery.   Poppy Hive Brewery: One might not guess that the Resolute Tundra is a good place to find honey. However, the hot springs and geyser fields to the northwest of Morrgys soften and warm the earth enough that the surrounding region is a massive field of flowers. The Poppy Hive Brewery capitalized on this, cultivating the honey bees and the poppy fields which they pollinate to produce mead of superior quality.

Architecture

Morrgys eschews the tall, vertical styles of Osvenya architecture for practical, utilitarian architecture which is well suited to defense, particularly from goblinkin.

Geography

Morrgys is situated at the mouth of a glacial valley in the northwest Osven Empire, down which runs the Mirror Run from the Sky Mirror.
