Mundanus

Mundanus: a world caught in the middle of a divine stalemate. Millennia ago, the gods raged in and around Mundanus in a war which shook the foundations of existence and altered the cosmic landscape forever. However, as the war thundered on for time incomprehensible, it became clear that no factions were gaining or losing ground. New cosmic laws were enacted and the war ended in an uneasy truce.   Over the millennia, the scars of catastrophe have largely healed and the gods long ago began to reassert their presence to the denizens of the burgeoning world. Many artifacts of the ancient conflict remain, however, taking the shapes of objects, certainly, but also of massive structures of functions unknown and of persistent natural phenomena which have become accepted as simply part of the geography of the world. And, as the gods’ influence grows among the mortals of Mundanus, so, too, grows disparity, giving rise to a multitude of different peoples, cultures, and civilizations. However, even this meager knowledge of the gods’ doing is uncommon and the subject of faith, with divine inspirations differing wildly in their telling of the events of the long past.   Now, at the western end of the landmass called Aperina, in a continent circumscribed by mountains and ocean, called Erefres, a massive and powerful empire has grown under the watchful eye of Ao, Divine Bringer of Order. This empire, the Holy Osven Empire, has prospered for years under its line of holy emperors. The latest of the line, young Osven Telianor Noth Osven, is imbued with a youthful enthusiasm for discovery and exploration, an interest his people have grown to share, and he leads his nation in an unprecedented crusade to unravel the mysteries of the world…
