Flyball

2 June, 298 6c.
I forgot to warn the others about Nathan and flyball, I can't believe it. When he suggested a friendly scrum I though Jake and Alyssa knew what they were getting themselves into (I should have known better as soon as they agreed, honestly). Well, anyway it was entertaining to watch the two of them get demolished, though I really hope that Alyssa hadn't put any money on it, else she'll be back to dodging debt collectors again.

History

Flyball has been popular in northern Morova for as long as can be remembered, and it likely has origins that predate the Old Empire. It is first recorded as having been played in Gemeris, and spread outward from there.

Execution

Flyball is a fairly simple game with a simple set of equipment. All that's needed is a grass pitch of any size, at least six people, and an inflated or hollow ball. Players are split into two or sometimes three teams, and then the game is on. The goal is simple: transport the ball from one end of the field to the other. There are, however complications. Principally, the ball cannot touch the ground, nor can it be held for more than three seconds. As such, players must find ways to bounce, juggle, and throw the ball back and forth to each other. Also, the enemy team can intercept or steal the ball at any point. If the ball touches the ground, a point goes to whichever team did not cause the fault. If a team manages to get the ball to the other end of the pitch, that's a point for them. There are many versions of the game with more complicated rules and equipment, but the barebones version is the kind of flyball that one is likely to encounter all across the lands of Morova.
