Renthis
Renthis is the capital city of the Carenthian Empire. Located on the southern end of central Nilandra, it is the seat of power in the Carenthian Empire and home to the emperor's palace.

The Arcane University of Renthis is widely considered the premier institution of arcane instruction in Nilandra. Students travel from across the continent for the chance to enroll in classes. Graduates of the Arcane University are some of the most skilled mages on Morn.Imperial Palace
The Imperial Palace houses the current consuls and their families. The palace grounds are extensive and bordered by high walls, however parts of the grounds are usually open to the public on weekdays.Demographics
Renthis is home to around 1.5 million residents. A majority of the population is human, however there is a sizeable halfling population. There are also large populations of gnomes, elves, dwarves, and small populations of various other races.
Government
Renthis is the seat of power of the Carenthian Empire and is ultimately ruled by the emperor. However, day-to-day running of the city is left to the local city officials of the Renthis Magistry.
History
Construction
Renthis was built on the remains of a ruined ancient elf settlement in 230 PC. It is not known why the settlement was abandoned.Growth
Renthis was originally settled by humans fleeing from the aggression of Draconir. With the area of central Nilandra being under no authority, Draconians had frequently been raiding the region to take members of the mammalian races as slaves. This led to an exodus of humans moving south to the edge of Nilandra, with many of them finally settling in the ruins of Renthis. The population of Renthis quickly grew. Its location made it safe from the distant Draconir. The city's population of humans, halflings, and gnomes quickly grew. However, it was a relatively poor population of refugees and farmers. The city grew in an unplanned manner, with new tenements being built wherever there was space by newcomers. Over the next century, the population grew organised and the city's leadership offered protection for people who settled outside of but close to the city. Over time, this promise of protection grew. Renthis made agreements with several other cities in the region for mutual protection. Renthis grew to be the most powerful city in the region and the surrounding cities morphed into vassal states. The leadership in Renthis began to expand its territory north. In 348 PC, the city's ruler declared that the Carenthian Empire was born. Over the centuries, the empire continued to expand. Renthis has remained the seat of power in the empire since its inception.
