Order of the Nightrose

Where there is politics, assassins are often not far. This is especially true for the Order of the Nightrose. While their agents are active all over the world, their center of operation lies in Thaeria, where it's no longer a matter of bloodline that decides who rules, but whos name gets drawn from the hat. And sometimes someone might want to make sure a certain name will never get drawn.

Organisation

Very little is known about who's in charge, and how the order is managed internally. Most agents only get notified of their next target through a magically encoded message only they can read and don't know any more information than they need for the job. Usually that means they do not know who wants the target dead, nor who passed the job down to them.
New members are usually recruited either by contacting promising criminals that caught the order's attention through their skill, or by taking in very young children to be raised and trained as professional assassins. It's not unusual that these children are orphans, often even having lost their parents just momenty before at the hands of the order.
Once someone has become an official member, the order will keep a very close eye on them. A new member is expected to only kill when the order tells them to, only exception is self-defense in combat. Members are also expected to never ask questions about the order or their jobs, and the punishment to revealing yourself as a member of the Order of the Nightrose intentionally or accidentally is always death, with no exception. Leaving the order is also not an option, once initiated you are bound for life, although members who served all their life are allowed to retire eventually, and will not be expected to work in the field anymore.

Publicity

Despite their incredible secrecy as to its members, jobs and intentions, they are a well known and much feared organisation. They have proven countless times that no target is truly safe from them, having taken down high ranking members of the wizardry guilds or political figures in plain sight.
The organisation often leaves a single flower of the Nightrose on their marks after killing them. As Nightroses only bloom for one night and wither away when the sun rises, it serves as a frightening reminder of their pinpoint precision when the body is found with a flower that has not withered yet. It is however suspected that they only mark specific targets this way, and that most of their killings never actually get attributed to them.
The name and sign of the Nightrose is so feared in all of Thaeria that many copycats have tried to intimidate their targets by imitating the order's signature style using fakes made to look like real Nightroses. Most of the time with little to no success as Nightroses are incredibly rare and dangerous plants, and the guards in Thaerian cities are usually trained to be able to detect minor illusion magic the more clever of the copycats use to make the flower seem real.
