Traitor's Fall

Traitor's Fall is a massive, super active volcano located east of Krag-a-Krach in a badlands called the Traitor's Cradle. The volcano is far from anywhere populated, and the route through the badlands is twisting and winding through a series of canyons; only a few people have ever been there. Traitor's Fall is noted for its frequent eruptions (although few people live near the badlands, the peak of the volcano is visible from the rim of the badlands, and those who visit frequently report eruptions), and the storm which brews overhead whenever it does erupt. Due to its inaccessibility and frequent eruptions, visiting is not recommended. Those who do visit are usually philosophers, who ponder the workings of the world. The extremely religious stay far away, as the volcano is said to house the Traitor, who fell there when he was cast out of the Pantheon.

Legend

The Traitor is one of the twelve gods that makes up the Pantheon. As the religious texts tell it, the Traitor, whose true name has been lost to history, betrayed the other gods one too many times, and they cast him out of the Pantheon. The Traitor is still a god and still exists, but worshiping him is strictly forbidden. Because of the way the badlands are situated in a massive crater-like depression with the volcano in the middle, many have theorized that the Traitor crashed down to earth at that spot. It's worth mentioning, though, that Traitor's <blank> is a very common naming convention in Morgrave for anything remotely strange and/or sinister.

Research

Science is in its infancy in Morgrave, and the most technologically advanced civilization, Hymbra, lives the farthest away from Traitor's Fall possible. Therefore, very little quality research has been done on Traitor's Fall. Astronomy, meteorology, volcanology, geology, etc. are little understood, and so the best "scientific research" done on the Traitor's Fall is by enthusiastic scholars, who often fall back on divine explanations or guesses utilizing their own understanding of the world.
