Herald of Agony

“It did not walk as much as it descended—drifting between shadows like a grief made flesh. Its limbs dragged the weight of a thousand unspoken laments, and where it passed, the air itself grew heavy with despair.”

The Herald of Agony is no mere creature—it is a psalm of pain whispered into the world by the Ruinous Powers. Some say it was once a prophet who asked to understand the suffering of all mortals; others claim it is the crystallized echo of an ancient massacre, weeping into eternity. Wherever it appears, silence falls... followed by weeping, madness, and death.

Weapons/Armour:

  • Agonizer Claws: Count as two swords with the Parry rule. Each successful wound from these weapons forces the opponent to take a Leadership test at -2 or become Stunned regardless of remaining wounds (due to overwhelming psychic anguish).
  • Aura of Agony (see below)

Special Rules:

  • Fear: The Herald is a terrifying creature and causes Fear.
  • Large Target: It is twice the size of a human and is treated as a Large Target for shooting purposes.
  • Terror of Sleepers: If the Herald charges a model that is stunned or knocked down, it gains +1 Attack for the remainder of the combat round and may reroll failed hits against such a model.
  • Aura of Agony (6” Radius):
All living enemy models within 6" of the Herald must roll a Leadership test at -1 at the start of their turn. If they fail, they suffer -1 to all To Hit rolls in that turn due to intense mental anguish and despair.
  • Daemonic: 5+ Ward Save (invulnerable save), immune to psychology and poison. Can only be banished permanently with magical weapons or holy effects.
  • Drifting Form: The Herald moves with ethereal grace. It ignores terrain penalties when moving and may move through small obstacles or gaps as if it were incorporeal. It cannot climb buildings, however.

Optional Additions (Campaign Play):

  • Agony's Blessing (Rare Upgrade): Once per game, the Herald may force all enemy models within 12" to roll an immediate Leadership test. Those who fail are Stunned as they collapse from existential dread. Usable at the start of any of the Herald’s turns.
