The Old Black Wolf of the Hills
The party was approached by Betram Breeze of the Nymphgate Trading Coster. They run a standard trade route between Eastbridge and Wrathford, a several day journey that runs through the Scarlet Hills. Typically, it is a low risk route. When the teamsters head through the Scarlet Hills, they often see a black wolf that watches them along the edge of the road and they have named it "The Old Black Wolf of the Hills".
However, the last couple of trips had the Old Black Wolf looking gaunt and this time when she watched them, it sent a shiver through the spines of the teamsters who no longer saw her as a friendly wolf. The teamsters were uneasy and so Bertram agreed to hire on a few hands as protection to see that the caravan made it to Wrathford and back, but also to try to clear up whatever was spooking his teamsters.
The party followed the caravan out, seeing the Old Black Wolf of the Hills, seeing her gaunt with bones visible through her patchy fur. Investigating further, they realized that the wolf was a ghost and she possessed Levi, leading him to a cave. The party found signs of kobolds in the cave, but left, wanting to see the caravan make it to Wrathford on time.
On their return trip, they investigated further. Levi was possessed once again and when they approached the caves, discovered that it was a lair for kobolds. Interrigating the kobolds, they discovered that they were sent by their "god" a black Dragon known as Ydarion the Night Cutter. While interrogating two kobolds, Tiarjead impressed one with a crisis of faith in regards to his god, while the other cursed and vowed vengeance on the party.
The party found the leader of the kobolds, a winged kobold named Fell. They had killed the Old Black Wolf and took her pups to raise as war beasts for their Burnfist Clan. The party killed Fell and the kobolds, eventually deciding to free their two kobold prisoners, Guc Fuggruc still having and existential crisis and Gakkle who vowed bitter revenge against the party, for better or for worse.
The Old Black Wolf of the Hills reformed and possessed Levi one last time, moving to nuzzle her pups in his body before leaving, finally able to rest. Levi adopted the pups who were attracted to him because of his predator nature and the spirit of their mother that had possessed him.
With the Old Black Wolf of the Hills put to rest and the kobolds cleared out, the trade route was cleared and the party collected their rewards.
While the party engaged the Apex Werewolf, Ulfr, after he summoned The Wild Hunt, the Old Black Wolf of the Hills reappeared to possess the alpha of the hunting dogs, leading them to run down the remaining werewolves in the area.
