Gossamer

Voice of the Eldest Oak Gossamer

Gossamer is an enigmatic and unnerving Fey entity shrouded in layers of mystery and darkness, serving as the Voice of the Eldest Oak in the Court of Blight. His true identity is obscured, as he wears a heavy, tattered robe of pitch-black fabric that hangs like a shroud, concealing every aspect of his being, from his hands to his feet. The robes are etched with ancient symbols of decay and rot, as though woven from the very essence of the blighted land, and they seem to shift and ripple as if alive, moving with an unnatural grace. His silhouette is imposing and featureless, a walking abyss, always indistinct, as if he exists just on the edge of reality, hard to focus on and impossible to fully grasp.   His most notable feature is the plague mask he wears—an iconic symbol of death and disease. The mask is long and hooked, like the beak of a raven, dark and smooth with a faint sheen of ichor along the edges, giving it a sickly, unnatural glow. Small vents along the mask's surface seem to exhale a faint mist, as if it were alive with some hidden presence within. There are no eyes behind the mask, and no hints of humanity or warmth. It is as if the mask itself is the only thing that defines him.   Gossamer is always accompanied by a raven, a shadowy creature whose eyes gleam with an intelligence far beyond that of an ordinary bird. The raven flies close to Gossamer's side, perched upon his shoulder or circling overhead, its presence always a reminder that something unseen and far older speaks through Gossamer. The raven seems to act as an intermediary, its sharp caws a sort of chorus to Gossamer's cryptic speech.   Despite his ever-present shadow of mystery, Gossamer’s role in the Court of Blight is clear: he is the sole mouthpiece for the Eldest Oak, the ancient and powerful force that rules the Court. No one knows how Gossamer came to hold this position, or how he is able to hear the Oak's voice, but his ability to communicate its will is unquestioned. When Gossamer speaks, his voice is cold and hollow, carrying an eerie echo that seems to reverberate from the very earth itself. His words are often laden with cryptic meaning, drawn from the depths of the blighted woods, as though spoken by something much older than any mortal or fey. He is both an oracle and a harbinger, the bearer of secrets that the Eldest Oak desires to impart—secrets that are often unsettling, twisted, or dark.   Though Gossamer is the Voice of the Eldest Oak, he is no mere messenger. His presence commands authority in the Court, and those who hear him know that the will of the Oak flows through him. His true motives, however, are shrouded in secrecy—what drives him, whether he serves the Oak willingly or is bound by some ancient pact, remains a mystery.
