It is the roaring 20s. The Volstead Act is the law of the land and bootleggers and gangsters rub shoulders with the great and the good.
While the bright lights and jazz distract the masses in the darkness something twisted brews. Anarchists and socialists rub shoulders with occultists and nativists all plotting the downfall of civilization. A covert war wages, unknown and unseen by the content masses, in the seedy underbelly of America for the future of humanity.
The Twelfth Bureau
It was a day like any other when you were recruited. A man dressed all in black, a federal agent, he approached you at your place of work, or a party, or somewhere on your daily commute. He knew about you, perhaps more than you knew about yourself, he said the right things, in the right order to get you to follow him. A week later you find yourself in Arkham Massachusetts with little training and a government badge, the newest pawn in the Twelfth Bureau's fight against those who would see the United States fall.
