Ruins of West Edmonton Mall

That which blocks the Northern Lights

"I still would not describe it as Hubris. Even knowing the events that occurred and how it turned out. A shopping centre, theme park and hotel--stretching to the heavens able to include all of the stores and franchises. The perfect element of competitive practices--to bring the best prices possible--and the best products possible. We compared to the Tower of Babel--wondering what new languages we'd need to learn how translate. I still, however, do not think it was hubris that brought us here." -- DJ Grizzly Doug Ched Lovely

The mall was once the largest mall in the world. They built a bigger one in East Asia--and was just the biggest in North America. Then a larger one was built in Seattle. It was still a famous tourist destination. Upon the Masquerade being dropped, a few new phases could be finally added. THEY had wanted to add them--but could not do so with the masquerade up.

The schedule of the new phases to be added to West Edmonton Mall was rapid and quick. With the Omega Phase being open in a major event. Indeed it was a major event. Much of Edmonton was destroyed in the ensuing hell fire and attacks of what is now being referred to as "Kaiju"

What was to be a Shopping Mall of goods services that reached to the Heavens itself became a disaster zone. With the city Edmonton becoming a modern day supernatural version of Chernobyl. Some suggest this was on purpose by the mysterious benefactors and mysterious planners. The entire city is closed off except for training exercises for venturing into the Other World Realms. The crater that is the noneuclidean ruins of the mall are completely inaccessible by mortals--and unescapable from those not bound to the standard ties between life and death.

As a side effect... the tourism industry is very strong... and the local K-Days celebration is just as much theme of the disasterous multiworld blasted destraction that left much of Northern Alberta (Canada) scared irrepairably.. and the Klondike Gold Rush.

Purpose / Function

"Nobody asks why we try to build the largest of something. We just try to build the largest, you know. You just gotta--and sometimes some preternatural creature is all, 'nuh uh' and we were jut like 'uh huh'... and it escalated" -- Survivor of the Opening of Omega Phase

West Edmonton Mall was to be a tourist attraction and a gimmick to put Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on the map. It worked well enough too--that other locations decided to built larger malls. WEM (as it is called for short) had issues expanding to go beyond this due to limits of land it could construct upon, zoning and several laws of physics.

As a shopping mall, there is only so many stores you can put into a mall, and so it ended up having a go kart track, a theme park, a wave pool and several of the Canadian Navy's submarine forces housed in the location.

Upon the end of the Masquerade there were plenty of ways to bend the the laws of physics. With several mysterious benefactors having plans for should these case hold in place. With how things played out, they could use all of the plans.

The idea was to build such a vast improvement upon the previous mall with several new phases that moved in directions only possibly via interactions with the other world, Reptilian tunneling technology, Demonic Contracts, Divine Whims, Reptilian Space Technology and Fae Wooden Computronics.

Construction went smooth--without any major issues. Then upon the opening day for the Omega Phase--something mixed improper. Forensics teams were never able to venture close enough to the epicentre of the chain reaction event. Several Kaiju creatures were released to destroy much of Edmonton, various lost souls were released to terrorise the innocent and several unplanned rivers of blood were released--in amongst many other events. Which ticked off all parties--as many of those souls were ones the Infernals were not wanting to be released--and they proceeded to sue various survivors to try to attempt to get them back.

The area is both an Extreme Other Realm location and an Other Realm Dead Zone at the same time. Scientists will be studying the events that followed the opening of the Omega Phase for some time to come for a better understanding of reality

These days, Edmonton as a city is meant to wall in this destruction act a research base, attempt to weaponise WEM and train various soldiers on how to handle combat in the Other Realm.

Alterations

Several phases were added by the standard laws of physics... once the masquerade was dropped, an incountable number of phases was then added to make the mall nearly infinite in size.

Architecture

The first few phases were standard architecture of the 70s and 80s--the final "Laws of Physics" phases followed architecture practices of the 00s.

The later phases were a celebration of the drop of the masquerade and were made as omages to various phases of Greater Fae building styles, the four main styles the Infernal Realm consisted of (though Fell Demon King Charles VIII Infernal Realm's styleseems to blend in really nicely with the style of the Demon Succubus Goddess Ashbethlynn Zorah's Infernal Realms, which you'd not expect), Reptilian Culture throughout the ages, Divine Grandeur--in amongst others.

A lot of the later phases were not following the standard laws of physics--and reflected this. Though, plans were kept in place to avoid these different Later Phase styles for mixin with each other

After the opening of Omega Phase there has not been any proper ability to get close enough to the centre--but the architecture of the ruins around it is made from an elaborate series of gear looking movements.
