Plane of Souls
The plane of souls is the realm souls pass through before continuing on to the afterlife.
Description
Visitors of the plane are greeted with a barren wasteland of grey sands with a black sky. When a creature dies their souls appear in or outside of Acceptance. If a claim is on a soul (such as a contract with a devil), then the soul is quickly sent on to where it is destined. If there is no claim on a soul, the soul can choose to wander for a time before accepting fate and moving on, either going to the plane of their deity in life or to the plane of their alignment. Some souls linger on thinking their time is not finished. Those that believe they were the recipient of a great misdeed can plead their case to the Grand Arbiter to return as a revenant or similar creature and avenge themselves. Some souls cannot come to terms with the afterlife ahead of them and eventually make their way to the Sea of the Lost where they surrender themselves to oblivion. The plane of souls is unknown to nearly all. Those passing through it on their way to the afterlife quickly forget of it upon departure. Due to its obscurity, it is extremely hard to reach except through death. Those that know of it believe it to be close to the plane of shadow and therefore potentially reachable from it. A living creature with a soul would find most occupants of the plane hostile as the souls of the dead find the souls of the living abhorrent.Notable Locations

The majority of the residents of the plane are the souls of the dead. Some creatures native to the plane of shadows can also be found wandering the wastes of the plane. The plane is the home of The Forgotten King.
