Triskir

A Triskir is a flightless desert-dwelling bird known for its quick speed. They have been domesticated as mounts due to their speed. Triskir mounts have existed since long before the Age of Rooks. The country of Zagris is known for their incredible shock cavalry using them, but the practice has existed almost nearly as long as the Triskir have been domesticated and they are merely the ones who make the most use of them in the current age.

Characteristics

Triskir are omnivores, and will eat whatever they can find to sustain themselves in their harsh environment, but have shown preference for live prey, especially Russiris. They hunt using their sand colored feathers and prolific beaks, which they will charge at a creature and impale them with. Triskir beaks are harder than steel when a Triskir is in its prime, but if they don't get the necessary nutrients then it can become brittle.

Plumage

Triskir are commonly the color of sand, with patterns that make it difficult to distinguish them from the sand, however there have been domesticated Triskir lines that have developed distinct patterns and also colors outside the norm. Triskir from these lines are highly prized by nobility and merchants for their rarity.

Beaks

A Triskir beak in good condition is usuable as a very good spear tip, and will last for several generations if taken good care of, even if it were used daily. Triskir beaks from healthy specimens are a valued commodity, and its believed that they were once poached for them in great numbers. However, its been found that hunting wild Triskir for their beaks is a gamble, as there's no gurantee that you'll procure a seviceable horn form them and that combined with the laws put in place to curb the overhunting have made sure that the Triskir are able to prosper.
