Satoshi the Sable Blade
Lord Satoshi (a.k.a. The Sable Blade)
Strength; He's a particularly physically strong character due to the musculature required to carry such a large and heavy shell, as well as his gear and armor. This shell naturally gives him some increased defense when in a fight and is quite resistant to several forms of damage.
Weakness; For as much as he wishes to do his best by the people he is Lord of, he's not quite sure how to go about it and tends to fumble when he encounters a social situation. It doesn't help that he has decided to fall in love, and pursue the first born son of a another well established tortle clan without thinking about the consequences.
Satoshi believes strongly in honor in all things, from combat to daily life. He believes that the common rules of the world are there for structure and support and are designed to be followed to the letter as much as possible. He cares very much about the people he rules over, often going so far as to walk the very streets of the village and estate that he is heir of looking for trouble to dispel, and those he can assist or aid in other manners.
Satoshi feels it is his duty to protect, serve, and care for those under and around him at all times. He sees all of his clan, people, and even those beyond that as being equals to him, despite his status as a noble, and worth treating with the same respect and dignity as he would want for himself.
He is in love with Ayami Uolegnai, a Painted Tortle of Swashbuckler upbringing, who happens to be very particularly opposite of his family when it comes to trading, protection, and care. While Satoshi's family primarily deals with farming, ranching, and crafting, Ayami's family carries cargo across the high seas and focuses on fishing, foraging, and ship building. The pair of families have fought many times, verbally at the least, over who has the better tortle "empire".
Despite these particular differences, both Satoshi and Ayami have found common ground together and sneak behind their families' backs in order to see one another whenever Ayami is in port. This secret of theirs truly could ruin the honor and reputation of both families, but both lovers don't quite have the heart, or will, to resist one another.
Being a noble he is in a position of power. Though he tries to make the populace feel as if they are equal with him they recognize his nobility and many typically at least try to be accommodating to his requests and avoid provoking his anger. Other Nobility welcome his freely and he can usually get an audience with Nobles or higher if he requests it appropriately.
Tortles start off crawling for the first few weeks of their life before coming up on two legs, they are adults about the age of fifteen, and live on average about fifty to sixty years old. This makes Satoshi a little past the "prime" of his life at the age of thirty five, just old enough to have a good variety of life experience, while not yet being threatened by the frailty of old age.
Most tortles prefer to find comfort in routine and order, firming in this as they age. A few can find enjoyment in a more chaotic or disorderly life style but not as many. Satoshi himself is one of the former, enjoying the order and structure provided by rules, rituals, and habits he formed from an early age.
Satoshi, as a Dome Shell tortle, is on the upper end of the height and weight scale. His shell weighs about one third his full body weight, the rest is mostly muscle due to his career as a Samurai and the conditioning that goes into that sort of a lifestyle.
As a tortle he can use his claws for defense, though they don't do too much damage, he can hold his breath for up to an hour even with being a dome shell, and his shell itself is thick and sturdy and provides him extra protection from a multitude of damage types and the elements. Withdrawing into his shell protects his limbs, short tail, head, and neck from attack though it leaves him vulnerable in other ways and dependent on his companions for protection.
As a tortle, being used to living off the land, he is very adept at reading the land, the animals, and the weather in his homeland and beyond. This familiarity with the land gives him an advantage when it comes to traveling and finding food and shelter.
Tortles are speakers of two languages, taught from an early age. Mitoian, the most widely used language across the world, and Tortlean, a language mostly spoken by the Tortles, and some of the amphibious species on the planet. He can fluently read, write, and speak both languages, including the subtleties of the Tortlean language. (has to do with sub-species specific sounds and gestures)
Satoshi's background is, and always has been, being Nobility. He was born into it and found it quite fulfilling and enjoyable despite the unique challenges posed by being a Noble. He turned to adventuring quite recently when Aedays's minions showed up with the ultimatum for the planet regarding payment, or death! He couldn't allow this to stand, took what funds he had immediately available to him, a considerable sum but not as much as he would have liked, and headed out to take up the challenge.
His family supports his endeavors as a Noble, and as an adventurer, doing what they can to see that he has everything he needs to be the best at whatever he chooses to pursue in his lifetime. What sets him apart from other Nobility is his active engagement and enjoyment of spending his time among the common people and meeting them on equal ground instead of seeing himself as above, or better than, them.
