Thasinia Neridi Character in Mythrite | World Anvil

Thasinia Neridi

Thasinia Neridi is collectively known as the first elf to settle in what was soon-after named Reverie; therefore, she is blamed or praised for the separatist or solemn nature of the living area, depending on who’s talking. Those who appreciate Thasinia smile whimsically about her, believing they know her, copying her infamous solitary dance moves, though Thasinia never recalls anyone’s name.   Typical tavern or work-break conversations about Thasinia begin with a negative, followed by someone offering a standard counterpoint. One complaint is that Thasinia lives in her house all alone on top of a secret vein of mithril, and that’s why her fabrics are the best in town: “Her thread must be made from that special cache. Only explanation.” The defense: Someone will say that the complainer then must have a house built on a secret vein of dung, the only thing to explain such skill in rumor. Another complaint is that Thasinia thinks she’s too good: Her prices are too high for most. The defense: While the prices are high, Thasinia is said to be best known by those she trades bolts of fabric with, such as a former miner of town who painted the well-known image hanging in her shop, said to glow with the same green that people swear they see Thasinia carry at night when she delivers what they say are special orders for the Lords' Alliance that even Thasinia must put up with.   When Thasinia is asked where she is from and why she moved, she says the woods let her answer her fabric. She follows this with a compliment to the asker, never making something up. If she is pushed, she asks a question to stump the asker, such as, “What is hollow yet filled with flesh?” Even those who grumble about the many times Thasinia has bumped into them with her dancing-walk admit that she is never actually mean to them, much less to a customer.   Those with shops or stalls near Thasinia’s often refer to her as “The one who sings very loudly,” though, lest someone sneers at them, they then recall the story of a would-be thief who Thasinia did not call the guards on but rather dealt with effectively on her own. Though no one can offer any clear details on how she did this, they’re all convinced a bowl of water was involved, so the merchants set out a bowl or cup of water first thing each day.   Other elves in Reverie enjoy Thasinia because she nods when eyes meet, but she does not speak to them, thus not creating any undue expectations. The one time she spoke to her neighbor, it was to ask if they too smelled monsters on the wind--and if the neighbor believed the monsters made their own fabric or purchased it. This fact is used by other elves as a benchmark of acceptable interruption, and their known summary of Thasinia is “She will help if needed.”   @toddwe
