Orth Runewater Character in Mythrite | World Anvil

Orth Runewater

Orth Runewater has come to Mythrite to make his fortune, but he isn’t a Miner miner or a Merchant. Orth’s trade is in the distribution and sale of illicit substances and there is always a market for these goods in a boomtown, where disposable income (and disposable bodies) are plentiful. Having grown up in the hardscrabble alleys of the Dock Ward of Waterdeep, surrounding by rowdy sailors, roughneck longshorespeople, and Criminal elements and enterprises of all stripes, Orth knows that the way to thrive in a rough and tumble environment is to keep a keen eye out for opportunity and to ruthlessly seize it when it arises, no matter the cost. He started selling his “product” at an early age, discovering that this venture was the best way to survive a brutal and seemingly lawless environment, as he wasn’t big enough to fight nor popular enough to have others fight for him. When others joked and japed, Orth worked, having no patience for the “lighter side of life.” For Orth, there is no light side, just constant vigilance and surveillance for new opportunities and new dangers.   Soon, he prospered, but with that prospering came the unwanted attention from both the City Watch and his rivals. When it became difficult to conduct business without the constant threat of arrest and/or death, Orth decided it was time to ply his wares in Mythrite.   Now, The Korf is his territory and he is constantly on the move, lest his enemies catch him unawares. He maintains constantly on edge, constantly uneasy, except when samples his own product, as a way to indulge in the brief respite from the continuing anxiety and paranoia that permeate his existence.   Mythrite, however, has its own challenges for Orth. He sees the looming threat of the Lord’s Alliance and its interests around the corner and works diligently to consolidate his power in The Korf though bribery, deception, and cunning to maintain his relevance.   For Orth, there is opportunity everywhere, and danger, too, such is the life of a dealer in illicit substances. Such is his life.
