Changeling

Changelings, in their natural forms, have soft, almost fuzzy features and virtually no pigmentation to their skin or hair. This ghostly appearance, coupled with their ability to take nearly any humanoid shape led to widespread prejudice against the species by the humans of the Sarkhani Empire. In response, changeling culture developed an inclination towards secrecy and subterfuge. So complete was this cultural shift that many of the uneducated peoples of Mithlonde have never heard of changelings, or thought them long extinct, despite them being very much alive today.   Most changelings live secret lives in the cities of Mithlonde, blending in and disappearing amongst the populace. Occasionally they'll meet the other half of their race, the caravans. A changeling caravan will travel from city to city, along routes unchanged for generations. They'll meet and mingle with other caravans should they cross, or during annual gatherings. To most these are just another band of traveling entertainers, but other changelings recognize the signs and know the calls to identify each other and thus these caravans can be a refuge for those from the city. Information will be traded, individuals will join or leave the caravan as they will. Being a part of a caravan affords one the freedom to change their persona regularly, and so it attracts those changelings that crave such things.   It is exceedingly rare for a changeling to live their life in their natural form, for to do so is to attract suspicion and prejudice and hate from the uneducated or suspicious. But, should a group or individual prove themselves worthy, relaxing in their natural form among them can be a great sign of trust from a changeling
