Berez

Some time ago there was a fourth settlement in the valley of Barovia, the town of Berez. It was located on the Western shores of the Luna River, South of Argynvosthold. The Burgomaster's name was Lazlo Ulrich. Strahd von Zarovich became aware that a peasant girl, Marina, appeared to be a reincarnation of Tatyana. He lured her out of town and feasted on her blood one night, planning to return and fully turn her into a vampire. However, Lazlo Ulrich took Marina's life to save her from eternal damnation. When he learned of this, Strahd caused the Luna River river to swell, consuming half the town and turning the the rest into a swamp. Those who did not die fled, and now Berez is all but a ghost town.
On the outskirts of the town resides the enigmatic witch Baba Lysaga. She makes armies of scarecrows and sends them forth into the valley to attack Strahd's enemies.
